Default Who needs a BMW or Merc?

Has anyone seen the new Saab 9-5s? I think they're absolutely georgeous. Out does Merc and BMWs for looks and uses a world leading AWD system.

Doesn't that best all the European competitors?

Add in some race bred engines from Koenigsegg (even the current 2.8l t is nice), and my god, the future is bright for Saab.

There's not one Saab that I would ever consider buying if I was considering looks only.

They are one of the ugliest cars on the road I believe.

There are plenty of Mercs and BMWs I would buy in an instant.

Well I'm going to break the trend and say it looks really good. The new angular Benz's don't really do it for me, especially the E class. That front end is a mistake. The current BMW sedans also look worse than their predecessors. But... There is still Audi left, and I love Audi's current design. Especially the A5 and R8. I don't think this betters that. I'll keep an open mind though and wait until I read reviews about this new SAAB before I pass judgement. The current Volvos look good too.

I have always liked Saabs but I am not a fan of the design on this one. The new Audi...well there a different story...

Doesn't do it for me mate sorry! . If I myself was in the market for a European (which I doubt for another 5years at least lol) then I'd be looking at Audi and Merc for sure!

Even though Ford all the way, I've always like Merc's. There's a sort of prestige and class about them, especially S-Class and E-Class AMG versions!

You are probably better off not going for the high performance version of either of these cars if you want luxury. The S65 AMG has tighter suspension than the S600L, which I think defeats the purpose of a having a long wheelbase luxury car. I've read that the RS6 is really tight too.

^^ what he said..

the front end treatment on that is beyond ugly *people thought the AU forte was bad...* and the interior looks like an complete afterthought.

as far as engines go they are about 20 years behind and have no performance division, the one car they did try and make fast is bettered by a N/A XR6.....

SAAB is a nothing brand, GM have ran it into the ground and have spent very little on anything since they bought them. I would never buy a car from a brand like that. They have not made a profit in a hell of a long time. Makes you wonder what corners have been cut to try to get the finances back in the black.

Its a GM chassis too isn't it. Insignia?

As for the OP, Koenigsigg would have had zero input to the engine. The final sale hasn't even been finalised yet has it.

Before buying any European offering, ask yourself: Have you driven a Ford lately?

I realise Koenigsigg hasn't had any influence on the current engine, hence my the future is bright..

Meh, well it seems I'm one of the few that like it... For 30k less then a BMW or Merc, I'd get it. But hey each to their own.

G6ET all the way baby!! would knock the socks off this thing in every department. Heck of a lot more grunt, much classier interior, more space, probably use only a tad more fuel, and hey if you would buy a SAAB because it is 30k cheaper than an equivalent BMW or MB, than why not save another 20k and buy an even better car.

Mate I wonder how happy you would be after being back and forth for warranty issues and within 2yrs suffer at least 60% depreciation....
I'm sure your happiest ownership experience will be after you swallowed your pride traded the !!!!! in and let the next left field thinking not follow the pack sucker learn the lesson again

Funny I have this mind thought everytime I see a SAAB owner :togo:

So you wouldn't recommend anyone here buy a Mondeo XR5, Focus ST etc?

A Territory or Falcon perhaps? How exciting.
