Hi all
Ive been a member of the Ford forums for a few years now mostly playing with Falcons well Ive bought a new toy its an XR4i Sierra 2.3 turbo but when I checked the specs in Google it comes up as a Merkur not a Sierra no matter my new toy needs some work the motor doesnt run I will have to check that out the windscreen has a crack but most important to me is it has no ignition key and the steering is locked can I change the ign barrel or would I be better getting a locksmith to do something there if I changed the barrel would that upset the fuel injection computer just some things to go on with hope to hear from someone smarter than me thanks John |

Hi John. I could be wrong, but I believe the car you have was also known as the XR4ti. My understanding is the XR4i was for the European V6 model. The Yanks got the 4 pot. I owned an XR4i V6 for a while. sounded awesome and went very well in a straight line. The V6 isn't a light motor, so it braked and turned badly. I think the turbo puts out nearly the same power, but lighter and so a better balanced car.

Is this car a lot different from an RS Cosworth?

yep. the cossie was a 2 litre turbo and very, very fast. slightly different bodies as well, as well as cosmetic differences like lights and grille. not sure about the other oily bits though.

Congrats on the purchase! If you want any photos of any areas, or want to swap notes, I'm keen to help! Swanny.
