In the near future I will be heading to Batemans Bay.What is the quickest way there? Do I head to Goulburn then across? Or do I take the Princess Highway via Nowra?

Until they finish the roads around nowra if its peak travling peroid m5 is probly quicker with no traffic! Im in sutherland so already 30min or so closer! We get down there in bit over 2 1/2hrs with a good run down the princes hwy! |

M7, Hume to Moss Vale, Moss Vale road to Nowra, down Princes Hwy. 288 Kms, Mainly 110/100, Down Mossvale is probably 80kms. Only 5 or so traffic lights
Otherwise, Parra Road to Rookwood Rd Stacey St Fairford Rd etc, Heathcote Road, Princes Hwy. 277kms, Heaps of 60, 70, 80km zones, heaps of traffic lights, only 110kmh for about 20kms on the F6.

Macca23, another Sutho boy. Will keep an eye out...
From here the 'gong, and Nowra is the best way, although this can suck during peak holiday and weekend periods between Albion park and Kiama through Dunmore, and again through Nowra. Early Jan mid Sat run took me 3.5 hrs to just south of Ulladulla (usual 2-2.5). Tip though is to take the coast road from Gerringong, through Gerroa and rejoin the Princes just north of the Nowra bridge. I always do this, especially when dragging the boat. 3 or 5t limit though so can't take anything really big. Cool views, reasonably straight road, bypasses Berry traffic (but also the donut van!). Generally about 10 min quicker and a nicer drive. 90km/h camera at Coolangatta. As for the Hume thing it is an easier drive till the top of Kings Mountain (which is only about 20 min of the trip, and quite fun anyway I reckon). If whereis or google maps are showing little difference in time from Parra, I would take the M5/Hume and Kings Hwy if you are after an easier drive. Ditch the Hume at Goulburn and the road through Tarago meeting up with the Kings is quite good. Both the Hume through Campbelltown, and the Princes through South Nowra, Shellharbour and Heathcote suck on Sunday arvo's so try and avoid then. Drive safe. |
