Love it or hate it, at least Holden are showing what the commodore replacement is - what have Ford done? Nothing.... (Mustang is not Falcon replacement - it only seats 4 for a start, and is 2 door, and cramped)

So would you prefer that Ford plaster Falcon badges all over the Mondeo?
Because this is exactly what Holden are doing.

Mondeo is the Falcon replacement.

Holden have to maintain the Commodore name and try and keep over 2000 units of sales in the public domain because they are continuing the badge. Ford are not so IF there is a Falcon replacement, and I'm not expecting one, it will be introduced as such.

It should not be called a Commodore if it is not RWD or have V8 as an option.
What are Holden smoking if they think the public will buy this.
Rest the name until something comes along that warrants the name at least.

I assume their strategy is to push Falcon/Territory refugees into Mondeo/Everest/Mustang.

Holden were talking up an AWD strategy for the commodore in the early 2000s. They never followed through with VE but an AWD Insignia with a turbo six and some local input might not be so bad, as long as it has a usable tow rating.

You are aware this is a mid size car and not a large one?
It's a competitor to the Mondeo

Looks good, hope it sells well.

4wd and twin turbo sounds good...

Ford didn't have a V8 Falcon for many years and still called the car Falcon... during their cardigan years.

Nope, you've got this completely ar$e-backwards.

Ford have been honest from day one about their intention to drop the full-size Falcon, and make the mid-size Mondeo their singular choice for a family sedan.

GM/Holden meanwhile are not just killing the full-size Commodore - they're taking the mid-size Insignia and gluing a 'Commodore' badge on it, in a sleazy attempt to keep reeling in sales.

And on top of that, at least Ford have a Mustang in Oz - what is Holden getting to compete with that?

Whats sleazy about it? its just business.
Smart to use any name recognition left..

GM could always bring the Camaro or Corvette..... if Mustang sales don't die off.

Height 1471 (mm)
Wheelbase 2915 (mm)

Insignia

Wheels take on it;

http://www.wheelsmag.com.au/news/160...ted-commodore/

Seems to be all but confirmed the Opel Insignia will be Commodores replacement.

When you consider how many Commodores sold are V8's, wagons, and/or utes, it's pretty obvious that this is destined to fail dismally and you really have to wonder what Holden are smoking.

Falcon
