Default Car Transport

I need to transport a car from the Gold Coast to Melbourne. Does anybody have a company to recomend? I have received a quote from VIP for over $700. I'm sure they are very good but does anybody know of a cheaper option? I would have thought $300-$400 would be far more reasinable. But maybe i am wrong......

We used to send cars up on top of loads from Toowoomba to Katherine NT, and they charged $400.
Depends on what type of service you want really. I would pay extra myself, but thats just me.

Cheers

Alans unique car carriers total professional and looks after the cars .seen them operate and have help take delivery of cars from them for the Bowden Family

Depends on what price you put on your car $$$$ cheap and nasty or pay a bit extra and get the job done right

Thanks for the tips. I'll get a quote from TNT and unique. It's a cheap $5000 old falcon, hence the apprehension to paying top dollar.

i used a 'premium' service (covered transport)when i got the mustang transported from adelaide to perth, turned up with completely dead flat brand new battery (was fitted new before shipping) and a dead coil, the igntion had obviously been left on for a long time )
and it was filthy, despite the 'free wash' it was supposed to get. will check who it was and post it for others, was one of the big names.
took the shine off the car turning up, of couse they denied everything and said batteries just go flat (yeh new ones go dead flat in 3 days apparently)

TOLL (was Finemores) are probably the biggest around. Getting a car from QLD to VIC should be cheap as there are no cars made up there and they often run back to VIC empty or part empty.

I went with Toll last year to get my car from Westernport, Melbourne to Sydney CBD. They did an alright job. Car arrived back to me just as I left it... albeit with a while chinagraph number on me windscreen. That came off with some elbow grease though.

l have moved 2 cars from Brisbane to Vic in the past year. The first via Alans set me back a little over 2k (door to door) the other via VIP was $700 into Melbourne. l had good experiences with both. VIP subcontract out to TNT so you could obviously save a little going direct but Spiro at VIP provides excellent service and would be better than dealing direct with TNT. It was worth it to me but it depends on the car and its value to you.

Cheers

I found TNT to be the best value.

The security of a large company (no "fell off the back of the truck bs"), with the cheapest quotes and the most liberal policy on lowered cars. ie. TOLL will transport cars under 10cm high but wont insure them, TNT will do both.

we use stretch car freighters out of queensland
since its only a cheapie i would just go with a cheaper freight company.
should be about $450

Around here mid north coast we have Andrews Auto freighters. They do most of the dealers Ford/Holden so they must go north and south. I searched Car Carriers in yellow pages but I found their number under AUTO Freighters. Try that as a search. There seems to be plenty in VIC,didn't see where you are. Not sure if they backload like removalists so look for the ones from the other end to you. $700 probably not too bad the price of fuel these days. It would cost 300+ to drive it in a car I reckon.
