1980s-1990s TAC Advertisements - Did they work?

Hey guys and girls,

I recently did a government-run driver training course (P-off) here in the ACT, and to show us the danger of distraction/drink-driving/speeding/hooning/etc, the bloke running the course played some of the original advertisements from TAC. As most people know, the ads were quite horrific, almost disturbing to some. They almost make the RTA ads played here in the ACT look tame.

Unfortunately, I can't find any statistics on the internet on accidents in Victoria for the 1990s, so I'm not quite sure if there was a drop in bad accidents during that time.

So, to those who live/lived in Victoria during this period; did these advertisements contribute to a lower death/injury toll? Less speed/alcohol-related accidents? Did they make you think about driving safely?

This is NOT a thread where you can go and rant about the revenue raising of speed cameras (we already know that). It is about the tactics that TAC have used to advertise that issue, and the effectiveness of their ideas.
