I dropped my car off this morning at Road & Track Services in Adelaide to get a chiptorque interceptor chip and a HP4 Cam(Crow/Chiptorque) and complete Dyno tune.

Cant wait to pick it up tonight. :Reverend:

im hoping 140kw is the go, more is always welcome of course:-)

Will definately post the readings tonight after a very lengthy drive or tomorrow morning after little or no sleep and cramped hands from clutching the steering wheel.

Spoke to Gil a few minutes ago

With the chip only its made 115rwkw registered on a Dyno-Dynamics dyno in test/logging mode, which he reckons is a great improvement. When i mentioned 135-140rwkw he said there would be no way he could get that much out of it with what we were adding in.

I assume some dyno's read higher then others and in different modes?

Really interested to see the how much power your car makes with these mods, 135rwkw seems reachable, surely the cams worth 20rwkw. Did he dyno it before he did the chip?

yeah he did a dyno before but i forgot to ask what the before figure was, he said his standard au series ford made 80rwkw on his dyno. ??

The cam goes in this afternoon, hopefully there will be more improvement there.

80rwkw is a LOW number, should be closer to 95rwkw so I think he has a lower reading dyno.

Might have to take it to another dyno place in a few months to get a second opinion :

so I think he has a lower reading dyno.

Yeah the dyno that mine will be put on when the cam gets done apparently does an average figure or something and not a standard dyno dynamics setting way....

weird.

OK guys, cam didnt go in, as the two Gill had were rooted and would have vitamized my tappets in a week.

So looks like peak power is

115kw at 110kph

old figure with my own mods was

110kw at 115kph

so not a huge gain, but the power comes on alot earlier(although not alot to be seen under 60kph) so the entire curve is improved.

I'm not entirely convinced the numbers are right, as they seem a bit low, and not a huge improvement over what I had before, might be an idea to see what a different dyno will yield, also these readings werent done in shootout mode.

EDIT: My stuff up, no torque readings are on the sheet.

after a lengthy drive tonight, the chip definately makes a big difference, even the gear changes of the auto seem tighter and with less lag. Definately seems to be more then 115rwkw as well, I think after i finally get a cam fitted I will get a second opinion on the peak power.

Road and track is a pretty honest dyno IMO

I made 146rwkw there in last year with the mods in my sig.

I saw a graph for an EB with crow stage 3, chip and headwork that made 142rwkw.

oh yeah, try not to focus too much on peak power numbers. There are some operators that will tell you whatever you like for your money. Road and track are very consistant which is the best you can hope for in a dyno.

I think the figures are quite good.Ask him for a shootout 4 or 6 dyno.I bet you will have better figures.

can anyone explain to me the difference in the modes? Why does shootout mode yield higher numbers? Are these real numbers? Or would I be kidding myself?

Ahh, why? What the dyno says your peak power means SFA. If he does a run in shootout and pulls 130 what does that mean (other than you can put 130rwkw in your sig and impress everyone who cares about peak dyno figures)? Does this make his car any faster?

I dont know the difference, but different modes do give different results. Chasing dyno results is really nothing more than driving from pace to place handing over money until you find someone who is willing to stroke your ego.

I have a g-tech you can borrow to test your car out if you like. While still not as good as a run down the strip, it will give you a a better indication of your cars performance than a dyno (0-100 and 1/4 times).

BTW: Congrats on the 115rwkw. Youll find it is hard to pull big numbers at any of the decent dyno centers around Adelaide. I have run or seen cars run at Tilbrook, Road and Track, and Blackwood that are all within 1rwkw of each other.

Thanks mate, im not really seaking numbers for their own sake or my own ego, but i just want a number, taken in a similar mode to everyone else so I can compare(albeit ballpark) what others have done with similar modifications, and where I can improve.

Im still trying to source a cam, so this will help I hope.

I'm curious though as to things like my extractors, which are Advance Headers, not bad but are they just as good as JMM gear? Probably not, but id like some idea of how far off the mark I am.

And I'm hoping to go to heathcote drags in April to see what she will do, but not until i get a cam and comparitive reading to know what to expect.

Its my understanding that a stock vl turbo made about 115kw, so im not displeased with the number, and after a drive today the car feels great, and the acceleration seems to be getting slowly better under 60kph. I assume the ecu may be relearning?

A stock VLT made 150kw at the fly. Is that 115rwkw?

yup 115rwkw is my understanding... unless... im wrong.. lol

Edit: Its really hard to tell though, the more i research this the more its obvious its very hard to compare dyno results of any nature, i think i might just give up, get the cam, and see how she does at heathcote.

If i leave casper for dead, ill know im doing well, and that hell has frozen over, and that jesus has returned to earth and provided me with a miracle :P
