Default September 2013 Sales

http://m.smh.com.au/drive/motor-news...003-2uv42.html

Car buyers are coming back in droves in the wake of the federal election.

The Australian car industry remains on track for a record year of new car sales despite a slight softening of the market in September in the wake of the federal election.

The Coalition’s changes to industry policy, including the reversing of Labor’s adjustments to the fringe benefits tax, have been cited as a key factor for the surge in buyer confidence. In a dose of good news for local manufacturing, Ford has announced it will return to full production of its Falcon and Territory variants on the back of a strong month.

According to industry figures released on Thursday, Australians purchased 92,622 vehicles for the month of September, bringing year-to-date sales to almost 850,000 – a 3.3 per cent increase on a record 2012 calendar year.

While the monthly result represents a 3.9 per cent decrease on September 2012, industry officials remain bullish about the prospect of a record year of sales given the election turnaround. Vehicle sales traditionally slow in the lead-up to a federal election.

The Toyota Corolla was the best-seller for the month of September with 3443 sales, edging out the Toyota Hilux (3341) and Mazda3 (3052). The new VF Holden Commodore finished fourth with 2869 sales – its best performance of the year.

Jeep continued its sales renaissance outside the top-sellers, lead by strong sales of its Grand Cherokee (1402).

The Ford Falcon, in particular, enjoyed a significant turnaround in sales in the weeks since the Coalition’s reversal of changes to the fringe benefits tax.

The Falcon rose to 846 sales, up from its lowest ever result of 573 for the month of August, and the Ford Territory rose to 1130.

Ford spokeswoman Sinead Phipps said the result reflected recent changes to the FBT, as well as a welcome return in consumer confidence. Phipps said the result meant Ford would not schedule any more down days at its Broadmeadows plant, having shut production for 12 days during August and September because of poor sales.

“Both the Falcon and the Territory have come back significantly since last month… sales of local production is up 37 per cent in comparison to August,” she told Fairfax Media.

“We believe a lot of that turnaround is due to the FBT changes being reversed. I can also confirm that there will be no more down days between now and the end of the year because of the rebound local production sales.”

The biggest year-to-date increases in demand were in the ever-popular SUV segment (up 8.9 per cent), light commercials (up 5.2 per cent) and Sports car segment, up 3,292 (20.6%).

Toyota was the top-selling marque for the month of September with 17492 sales, ahead of Holden (9614), Mazda (7615) , Hyundai (8803) and Ford (7505).

Are they the best numbers we have seen for the Ranger since the PX was introduced?

Quote:
Top-selling model for the month was the Toyota Corolla (3443), which extended its annual lead over segment rival, the Mazda3, in the race to be Australia’s top-selling car for 2013 (32,039 sales YTD versus 30,781).

Toyota’s HiLux gave the Japanese brand a one-two finish for the month with 3341 sales, ahead of the Mazda3 (3052 sales). The Australian-made Holden Commodore continued its strong recent form since the launch of the new VF generation earlier this year, with 2869 sales (up 13.3 per cent).

The Hyundai i30 was next with 2675 sales (albeit down 14.9 per cent), ahead of the Nissan Navara (2278 units), locally-made Toyota Camry (2223 units), Australian-designed Ford Ranger (2037 units), Volkswagen Golf (1852 sales) and Australian-made Holden Cruze (1851 sales).

It was a mixed bag for those other Australian-made cars not yet mentioned: the Ford Territory was up 3.1 per cent to 1130 sales on the back of a big national advertising campaign, but the Falcon (846 sales, down 28.8 per cent) continued its now terminal decline.

The Toyota Aurion is also a concern, with only 537 units delivered for the month, down 25.5 per cent.

Brilliant numbers for Ranger and Territory. This is what happens when you build a car that people want. It sells.
Be interesting to see Focus sales, they're everywhere, I see ST model quite often.

Interesting if you added the big local Holdens together: Ute, Commodore, Caprice you would have the biggest selling vehicle.

Geez, Mazda came a huge cropper last month fit figures falling 24.6%

Good to see Falcon and Territory fighting back, I wonder if more positive help would boost sales further,
maybe winding back the post 2011 FBT statutory limits to previous levels would help all the locals...

Commodore sales still aren't something to crow about with such a significantly revised new model.

Only 110 more VF utes than FG utes too.

I trust if the 2014 Falcon can muster a 13 percent increase next year, like VE has over sales last year, you will be equally non plussed.

What has happened to Falcon has happened. Let it go. Its not Holdens fault.

What's that got to do with anything.

With all the massive upgrades with the VF those increases over what was an ancient VE aren't much of an improvement. Surely Holden would have been expecting a lot more.

Especially with the half billion dollar investment. Not to mention the huge price cuts. Which in reality mean those 2900 odd cars or so they sold are really only of an equivalent value to maybe 2500 VE's?

I can't see any part of Boss's post where the blame is placed at Holden. The post is merely an observation. Feeling touchy are we?

Chrysler/Jeep continue to surprise.
I've seen at least 2 Malibus - one in Ballarat back in May, before it even went on sale, and another a couple of weeks ago on the Monash Freeway in Melbourne. It was a pearl white CDX and was right behind me - really stood out. Nice looking front end.

Jeep Grand Cherokee is doing really well - outselling Prado and Territory .
Another one that flies under the radar is VW Golf - selling well considering bad publicity for VW lately.

The September drive away deals on Golf were great. I bought one for my daily 200 km commute.

90 TSI Comfortline for $26500 I felt was great value for all thine kit you get plus 3 year unlimited km warranty. Now they have moved to capped price servicing helps as well.

Sales are up but Ford must be disapointed with sales of Kuga. Weren't Ford expecting better sales with Kuga ??

Have to agree, with all the hype and advertising in a growing segment I would have been hoping near double the current sales... Rav 4 is doing 1,500 per month.

Agreed, in it's segment it's pretty low on the charts -

CX-5 1,670
IX35 1,667
RAV4 1,508
Tiguan 417
Captiva 5 409
Kuga 391

I drove one up in Malaysia a few weeks back and it's a damn nice jigger and sold here for a reasonable price. Big problem there was 'its a Ford' and the perception is low resale value, is it the same here with the 'Falcon car company'?

Same applies to the Focus in it's segment which again is a fantastic car.
