Default Stall convertors ...

Who runs one in there AU? Is the 200kw cam big enough to run one? I don't want to change the 3.45 gearing but looking for abit more off the mark if a convertor will help? Engine is stock with only bolt on stuff.

Darren

I run one Daz.
9.5", 3500rpm.
It really woke the big girl up.. I highly recommmend..
Mine is still running 3.45's.

As mine is a 9.5" one and not a standard sized modified one, it allows it to flash to the rpm a lot quicker..
Also, retained lock up..

Do it..!

3500? with the stock cam? What's it like when cruising? Does your auto get hot? You'd need a decent tranny cooler i'd imagine. Sounds nice in the vids too.

Oh and sorry for stealing the lid off Jaiden also

I would've gone TCE, all my other convertors were from them and never had a problem. Who suggested you run a 3500 though? Was it TCE or someone else? Just seems pretty big for the cam in the 200kw motor ... I mean i ran a 5000 in my mustang with a 347 but that was a 12k engine.

I bought it secondhand with less than 1000kms on it. Was from a wreck.
I saw it and took the punt. I got the number off it and asked TCE. They told me it was a 3500.. The punt paid off. It only cost me $150.

It was in a S3 XR8 originally.

I think it's perfect to be honest. I wouldn't go a lower rpm.

That's pretty cheap lol .. I'll ring TCE tomorrow and see what they say. I'm sure i'm not the only one to ask them.

From memory, the one in my car retails from $1050+gst, fitting is extra obviously.
Hope that helps.

Cheers Shav.
Extractors and twin 2.5" exhaust, dumped at the diff, does wonders for the windsor..!!

I too are running a TCE but closer to 3K stall. I first installed it with my 185kw Windsor and it was fine, but was probably closer to 2.8K stall then. When I installed it, I installed a PWR trans cooler bypassing the radiator.

On both engines (5L and 5.6L), it has performed faultlessly. Highly recommended. The only drawback that I have noticed is that your fuel economy may suffer around town.

Cheers

Cheers Stu, fuel economy was never given a thought, it's just something you expect to lose when doing this kinda stuff lol.
What size is your tranny cooler & who did you get it from?

Tranny cooler is close to this:
280x256x37mm. PWR - PWO5933. Not sure 100% that it is that one, but size is similar.

I got it from and installed by Gentech (same as Bluepower) here in Canberra when I had the stally put in and gearbox serviced.

Cheers

No worries.

I just spoke with TCE and they said depending what i want out of the car i could go for a 2.5k or go with a 3k for abit more punch and if it's built tight it would most likely be around 2.8k like yours. He did say to ask the tuner on what he recommends also and will it effect the tune ...

Nice..
Are you modifying your convertor's internals to stall higher or are you going the 9.5" one..?

The convertor may take a minimum of 2 weeks to be built from the time i order it which at this stage will be in a couple of weeks. So hopefully a month and a bit maybe.

Going the 9.5" converter. I don't think they can pull 3k out of the stock one can they?

A lot of people have had their stock internals modified to stall to 3000, often with mixed results. Some don't feel like a hi stall, some are slow to stall up, and others have no problems.

Going the 9.5" is the best option.
Also, just to let you know, mine will stall up well while holding the brake and I have had no problems with it going into limp home mode..

Looking forward to seeing a vid of how it goes Darren..!

Yeah atleast with the smaller convertor it's what it's meant to be. I've never had a problem with TCE convertors anyway. The only thing is when in 3rd or 4th gear then tramping it, it'll flash as it's not locked and that's where the fuel goes a little quicker but ahwell lol.

Mine is a modified stock one - it was actually my original one sent from Canberra to TCE in Melbourne - it was gone for about a week including travel time. It is the only stally that I have driven, so no real expert on them, but it feels ok to me.

Cheers
