Default Is this The STIG? Warning SPOILER

News overnight suggests that our favourite anonymous racer the Stig has been filmed sans helmet in Belgium and he still has both his ears.

Warning! If you prefer the Stig to remain a mystery stop reading now.

The mythical Stig has been piloting cars at break neck speed around the Top Gear test track for years and despite never knowing who he (or she) was they have stolen none to small a part of our affections.

During the filming of one of Top Gear's much loved challenges an infiltrator has managed to catch on video a person wearing what could only be the Stig's white racing suit and carrying a white helmet – much like the Stigs. Is this the Stig and if so who is he?

The full video can be viewed over at Autojunk.nl and the person filmed has been identified as Tim Schrick, test driver extraordinaire.

This news perhaps raises more questions than it answers… Is Tim Schrick the Stig or does he just like white? Is Schrick the only Stig? At the end of the day, did we really want to know who is under that white helmet or was it better left a mystery?

The Stig is a myriad of people. Most of the time it's Ben Collins, once it's been Richard Hammond (in the 911 test because it was his car) What's the big secret?

Speaking of the stig and top gear. what are peoples favorite moments?
The two that come to mind is the first Amphibious challenge when the Toybota flips.
The other one is the stig on the train/underground car when he picks up the newspaper.
And by the way. White stig is mostly Ben Collins but has been others for things like F1. Black/Dead stig was some guy I forget. Perry Macarthy perhaps.

You guys have got it all wrong.

The stig does have a Name. he drives cars for a living, rides bikes for kicks.

He is none other than Jay Upton.

Correct. Former F1 driver (albeit at Andrea Moda, probably the worst team to grace a racetrack) and test driver.

Who cares who the Stig is? It is various people, whoever is available at the time to do the lap out of all the current and ex race drivers they know.

But as brilliant as The Stig is I'll prefer to do a lap or two with Sabine any day of the week....

In a Transit Van??

The Stig, is just an awesome driver, whom everyone all over the world goes ga ga over, trying to figure it out....
I personally just wish Top gear would do more than 2 seasons of shows a year!!! 20 episodes, just isnt enough!!!

Will be interesting to see if the Aussie version has a 'STIG' Character, and i wonder who it would be.......

I remember reading or hearing somewhere that he would be known as 'Down-under Stig'... which I hope isn't the case as it sounds a bit corny IMO!

Ben Collins is the Stig, with possibly a few replacements for special purposes or when he isn't available.

Aussie Top Gear should have Bogan Stig, with mocco's as race boots, patch on the race suits shoulder for a pack of ciggies and VB sponsorship on his helmet. Maybe a flannelet race suit?

whoever he is he must be a VERY sought after driver, top gear would be on a gold mine with him.. imagine the experience, with his former career, combined with all the test driving of all the different cars...

A work collegue from the UK is heavily involved in motorsport says a friend of his who races BTCC has been the Stig, tells me it's not just ONE person.

There have been all sorts of rumours including it was Damon Hill.

Makes sense considering the stig drove the toyota F1 car last year, i don't think Toyota would have let Shrick hop straight in the car and thrash it within a warehouse.
