Exclamation Superhero takes on Clamping

Perth 'superhero' takes on parking inspectors

http://news.ninemsn.com.au/national/...ing-inspectors

Perth has its own superhero and he is on a mission.

Wearing a green lycra suit, bright red cape and coloured socks he swoops to the aid of stranded drivers who have fallen prey to parking inspectors, the Sunday Times reports.

The vigilante, who calls himself "Wheel Clamp Man" has been hacking open wheel clamps with an angle grinder, allowing motorists to avoid a $135 release fee.

The man behind the mask said he was spurred into action when he had his own car clamped.

"I'm taking an ethical stance," he said.

"I'm helping people out. I don't feel I'm damaging property."

"The amount of money these companies make off innocent people is insane. Where does that money go? Not into car parks or safer streets. It goes into their pocket."

When he spots a clamped car he dons his costume and mask and asks if the driver wants the device removed.

"Depending on the clamp, it takes less than a minute," he said.

"That's when my heart starts racing because you never know when a police patrol is around the corner."

The so-called superhero says he does not take any payment for his services but asks for a small donation that goes to the homeless.

Local police have called the man a menace and are calling on the public to dob him in.

"He is committing the offence of criminal damage and if people have any info, they should contact Crime Stoppers and we will deal with him," a WA Police spokesman said.

So does he wear the suit under his clothes? Surely the socks are a give away. Imagine summer...

Why don't you go and catch some real criminals. Or perhaps charge these wheel clampers with extortion.

Must be a cousin to the UK's version a few years ago.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/3112670.stm

Good to see the Aussie version has gone with a smaller grinder for speed and stealth than a petrol powered Demo saw.

Actually there was a guy dressed similarly in a gold coloured outfit and mask who used to grind off wheel clamps on the Gold Coast about 10 years ago. He was a local hero, but I can't recall if he got caught by police or not.

Wheel clamping should be made illegal. What right do they have to physically stop you removing your property?

It's kinda like them saying you have no right to physically remove their property from your car. Ie. wheel clamps.
