Evening all, did anyone read an article in tuesdays herald-sun about the new lemon laws?
"Manufacturers of expensive items such as cars, motorbikes, tv's or home theatre equipment would have to replace the items free of charge if they were to have a fault that couldnt be fixed" It states the government wants an automatic trigger system built into the system, so that items can automatically be deemed a lemon once they reach a certain number of repairs within a certain time frame. The law would only apply to new items. Good news for the countless hardluck stories being posted almost daily, shame for all its too late, it may be the incentive manufacturers need to make that extra effort quality wise. Where was this when my mate bought a new DVD player some 5 years ago, First day bang dead took 5 weeks too fix it, Should have been swapped new.
I had a new video recorder from good guys, 2 days it chewed up tapes, Took it back too them and they replaced it no questions asked great serves that.

What a load of crap.
What we need is a warranty system that manufacturers actually use, not try and get out of every five seconds. Unless there is something wrong with the chassis or shell, anything should be fixable. Also, define exactly what a "lemon" is?

i bet my mate wish QLD had those laws with his XR6 BA,he should have known by the colour(bright yellow),oh well another person who will never buy a new Ford again after 5 in 20 years.

I think that's ok.
Currently, if you get a bad car, they pretty much say, "Back Luck", despite having 30 repairs in a month on it without fixing the problem. No, there needs to be some accountability on the manufacturer and some protection for the buyer. If I want a good car (and I'm paying for it), then I deserve what I pay for. |

About time. Florida has had lemon laws for years (possibly others, its the one that I remember).
I cant believe we havent had these sorts of laws in the past. You fork out for new, it should be reliable, its a purchase, not a lottery. |
