Hey all,
I owned an AU Falcon for 10 years, from 2006-2016. At that time they were largely ignored by the general public. Of late, i've noticed the AU Falcon has become somewhat of a cultural icon, spawning a following. I am not sure if it is due to their incredibly tough constitution, the fact that they're the last rwd car with the classic setup (live rear axle etc) or that their initial styling cues have become appreciated with the fullness of time, or perhaps something else I'm missing out on. What do you think of the AU's new found fame? Do you like that it is now, maybe ironically, actually appreciated? Or do you yearn for the days when it was the unloved underdog?

It's been happening for many years now, I think it's due to a lot of factors.
It was always the ugly duckling. I think it is considered to be, by many enthusiasts, the best drivers car Ford ever produced. They are a raw and unrefined drive but still great manners, imo, no modern Ford can match that drivers experience. Also the nostalgia of the quad headlight XR front end, many from my generation can relate to it, and now they are in our price range to buy. I own and have owned almost every V8 model Ford and Holden produced since 2002. I go for the keys of the AU every time. The only car I consider to be on par with the AU for drivers experience is my old VY LS Clubsport. I like that the AU has become a cult, but at the same time I don't enjoy how much they have risen in price of late. I've sold a few now and for what i got for the last one i sold, I don't see the value in it and would never have paid that price myself. I still have one more i'd like to put in my collection, but I doubt i'll find one under 60k.

A Manual 220 XR8/250 Pursuit ute are a couple among a few id like to own. Agreed re driving experience. Light years ahead of any other falcon ive owned also. Yeah my FG turbo goes very well. But its no where near as rewarding as the 2 AU's i've owned. Also they were much better built, back when FoA cared about the cars they built IMO.
