Ok, I know this sounds like all the other posts about this issue but I promise it isn't, honest.
When I bought the 'lane, I got 2 sets of keys and remotes, as you do, but only 1 remote was actually coded to the car. The other flashes when you hit the buttons but nothing happens. so I thought I'd recode them both as per the regular method as described in the myriad of threads on the forum but for some reason the bloody system won't go into learn mode. I tried all the different variations I could think of; going fast, going slow, turning everything off, turning everything on, timing it to the second with my watch, blah, blah, blah, you get the idea, but no joy. Then last night, while I was patiently having another go and after another failed attempt, the bloody thing cycled into learning mode spontaniously after 10-12 secs just as I turned the ignition off, GRRRRRRRRR!!!........ so now neither remote is coded and of coarse now the bloody thing won't cycle into learning mode again so I can only open the drivers door with the key then have to reach across the dash to use the unlock button on the dash to open the other doors and put the key in the ignition and on to acc. to open the boot with the button. Has anyone got any insight into a possable cure or fix cos this is driving me nuts. I've scoured the forum for various variations on the correct method and tried them all numerous times hoping to jag it again but so far no joy. Is there a last resort fix via plugging in to the system or am I doomed to just persevering till I jag it again? Bushbasher

, I haven't resorted to threats yet cos I only just bought it and I actually quite like it but the ECU reset was my next thought although I was hoping to avoid that.

hi bushbasher i got this out a workshop manual , idon`t know if you tried it but see what you think,
KEY PAD DOWN LOADING . with car switched off turn key to accessories, then press demister button three times quickly to put smart lock in learn mode the door locks will change state to indicate learn mode.........note must be done within 5 seconds. b. operate one of the buttons on each keypad , each time a code is entered the door locks will operate two times to indicate a new entered code. c. once all pads have been entered into the system exit learn mode by switching the key to off position , then check the function of key pads. i hope that does the trick good luck. |

Thanks Mik, I appreciate the thought mate but that's exactly what I have been doing and getting nowhere.
There's got to be a corrupt software issue going on here with a lost bit or two of info. Is there any way to reinstall the ECU programming or would it be a matter of tossing the ECU and starting again. If that's the case , what's involved, can I just swap out the ECU or am I going to have to do more to get the whole thing working again? Bushbasher

I wouldn't think its corrupt software, when I did my reset i was sitting there for about 15 mnutes before it actually registered.
Give me 2 minutes and I'll go get my manual and edit my post, IIRC theres a step missing in that last post but I may be wrong. EDIT: Nope, seemed on the money. Word for word. Switch the ignition from the off (o) ot accessory (I) position. Press the rear window demister button 3 times within 5 seconds. The door locks will cycle to indicate that the system is in learn mode. Press the doors button on each of the keypads in turn. Turn the ignition OFF. The door locks will cycle to indicate that the keypad is trained. Do it with your doors all closed. How far do you get? Do the locks cycle at all during the process.? Try it with just one keypad to see if you get anything first. Last edited by Baldman; 28-01-2009 at 06:36 PM. |

Thanks for all the input guys, much appreciated and I can happily report that the bloody thing has just decided to play the game as the book says and now it's working flawlessly and has done half a dozen consecutive times in 10 minutes. : Mind you, that was only after threatening to take it to a ford dealer and having it reprogrammed ,lol.

The fobs are fine they are both working now and activate the locks from across the street outside the local shops so the batteries are good. We have normalityat last.......... well almost; I've noticed that if you start the car and put it in gear and go before all the idiot lights go out then any that are still lighted stay that way, usually the traction control is the last to go out and a few times now I've looked down and found it still lighted up . The thing is, you can't switch on the TC and extinguish the light with the button and the only way to get it working is to stop , switch off and start again then wait for all the lights to go out, then all is normal. Any one else have the same issue or is it just me ?

Seems the fix there would be to let them go out before you drive off?
I don't know about you but my lights go out within 1-1 1/2 seconds after I start it up. I don't think I could get it into gear and drive off before they go out if I tried. |

Well mine must be a bit slow in kicking in or something because I don't think I'm THAT quick off the mark when I jump in to the car. Yesterday I left the mother-in-laws place and got round the corner only to discover both the TC and ABS idiot lights on which are always the last 2 to go out so I pulled over, switched off and started again then waited the few seconds till everything went out before proceeding. The wagon certainly doesn't have this problem and I don't do anything different when I jump in that.
