Default Ba premium sound screen

Hi fella's,

I have premium sound fitted in my MKII xr8 and 1 pixel seems to be dead, when on night screen it's bright red. Can anything be done about replacing it. Ford told me not to worry as it's only 1 but it really stands out esp at night.

Hi XRQTOR

Sorry to butt in mate. Your colour screen is based on technology that is called TFT which stands for Thin Film Transitor. So, that 1 pixel is actually a single tiny transistor in a grid of many. The processor that controls the video sends the appropriate voltage and the transistor displays the corresponding colour. Since it is red the transistor is not dead but faulty, producing only one colour no matter what signal it gets (a dead pixel would show up as a black dot on white/light coloured screen). Unfortunately the screen can not be repaired. It must be replaced if you want a perfect picture.
That is why Ford told you not to worry about it, since it would cost them a brand new screen $$$.(Who knows how much they cost?)
Just so you know, those thin computer monitors that are the fashion these days are sold under the type LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) because it sounds good and people have heard the acronym before. When in fact they too are TFT screens. Currently, all but a handful of TFT screen manufacturers offer a zero dead pixel replacement policy I don't see why Ford should be any different, especially since they don't make the bloody things themselves.

I hope this helps mate.
Gerry

Hi

If your car under warranty i reckon you should do a change over regardless how many pixels is visible. cause once ur car is out of warranty, they very expensive to replace.

Thanks
