“Actually it was just call “Gull”, because I named it that. Because we knew it was going to poo on everything”.

That 4x4 Ranger just continues to sell. Comfortably the number 1 4x4 in the country for the month of may.

Yes, the reputation's not great. However the launch of the Active and a new entry level Ambiente should help.

Mitsubishi down significantly again this month, those inflated numbers from two months ago still having an affect it seems.

Also really interesting to note the two big sellers from the last few years, Corolla and Mazda 3, are well off the pace. Perhaps the increase in RRP has sent buyers towards the Kia Cerrato which has maintained low pricing despite a new generation.

Also, RAV4 to number three outright for the month would have to be mass registrations for media and dealer demonstrators.

Yep, Mitsubishi is exposed to large numbers going into fleets effecting month to month sales.
As for corolla/Mazda 3, these sales are being cannibalized by C-HR/CX3/CX5/KONA as buyers spend a little more for a perceived more stylish car.
I’m currently spending a week in palm cove, the number of plastic hub capped Kona rentals is amazing.

From caradvice article comments:

"2019.5 Mondeo range has been shrunk to Ambiente hatch and wagon only. All diesel and 6 speed DCT. Colour range has also been reduced. A bit tragic I think."

surely that's nearly the end?

Drive the new Focus Titanium when my car was being serviced, its a very nice car albeit a bit small for me, and saw a new ST this morning an outstanding looking car.

The Range is better than ever, once they throw the reputation for being the Falcon company of Australia. I have no doubt they will improve

They will certainly never bee in the top #3.Ranger is a better Ute than Hilux in many respects, but it ain’t a Toyota.I have no doubt the Hilux will improve quite a bit in the near future.Ford have been throwing everything @ it(Hilux)but still cannot outsell the thing overall. You might well say 4x4 variants of Ranger are outselling Hilux, but that is not consistent.Swings & roundabouts on that one.To be convincing they have to outsell Hilux by @ least a thousand units a month. Not going to happen.Their range line up is quite good, but again you have the issue of sales,Everest should be doing better than it is,better than Prado.Ford is still quite toxic to a lot of main street buyers.

Don't have to compare to Toyota to be in 3rd spot, they are head and shoulders above, mostly because of reputation.

3rd spot is held by Mitsubishi. now compare

I don't see why its not possible to take 3rd spot? they were 8287 cars short of that last month.
How many Focus were sold? because in that segment:
Mazda3: 12,682
Toyota Corolla: 11,882
Hyundai i30: 11,033

There is no Mitsi Mirage anymore, and Astra is suffering an identity crisis.

Focus:around 250-60 units. As I said Ford are not moving that much inventory.Mustang I think was around the 384 odd units.ZB was around 670.Equinox was a surprise doing around 590 units.Mondeo? Do they still sell it?Again pretty dismal for it.Focus might ( I say might) pick up when they bring in more variants,But would not count your chickens yet.(Shame though, because it is a very good car.) Unfortunately Australians are more inclined to buy Japanese & Korean these days.

Kia has already outsold Ford once in the last 6 months, before their new offerings arrived, I'd say Kia will take 4th from Ford before Ford takes third.
And they don't even have a ute....yet

Yep agreed Kia is doing well. could be a bit like a car race, getting passed while trying to overtake
Its not available yet, but would you have purchase the Fiesta ST over your beloved Picanto?

Ford should be proud that they are the only non Asian manufacturer with a model in the top 10 with the ranger, but that's it, after that 1 model, nothing else is even in the running to challenge 10th
Ytd figures

Toyota Hilux: 20,736
Ford Ranger: 16,645
Mazda3: 12,682
Toyota Corolla: 11,882
Mazda CX-5: 11,045
Hyundai i30: 11,033
Mitsubishi Triton: 10,062
Toyota RAV4: 9010
Mitsubishi ASX: 8229
Toyota Prado: 7833

Toyota -4
Mitsubishi - 2
Mazda - 2
Hyundai & ford - 1
I honestly wonder if the BT 50 was not so ugly if it would have been a stronger competitor to ranger

Toyota's overall lead with Hilux over Ranger is due to Toyota's willingness to pursue 4x2 single cabs at the lower end of the market.

https://www.goauto.com.au/new-models...-03/78914.html

.....Mr Smy said Ford’s long-term strategy in Australia is based on building a sustainable business and not one that sees it “cutting the price of cars and dropping the resale” and the like.

“It’s not about doing volumes. Ranger is a good example where obviously we do some good fleet deals with Ranger but it’s not a vehicle that we want to cut the price out of to get volume to be number one over (Toyota’s) HiLux, for example.

“We could have done that but we don’t want to do that."...........

I have always wondered why Ford couldn't push a bit harder with 4x2. I know it apparently sacrifices profit but there has always been a certain degree of bragging rights having the number one spot, and the confidence it build in the brand overall.

Kia definitely on the move but I think as with Hyundai, there will be a glass ceiling soon enough.

I have always wondered why Ford couldn't push a bit harder with 4x2. I know it apparently sacrifices profit but there has always been a certain degree of bragging rights having the number one spot, and the confidence it build in the brand overall.
Perhaps Ford should be more “willing” to push that sector harder? But obviously not.Even though the market was down last month & Ranger took the 4x4 honours(albeit not by much) Toyota’s Hilux still outsold Ranger very comfortably. This “battle” will go on for quite awhile yet.Meanwhile over @ Mitsubishi............

Its not available yet, but would you have purchase the Fiesta ST over your beloved Picanto?
Before I bought the Kia I enquired at Rebel Ford for a Fiesta as my Daughter has an 09 model detect and its a ripper, the only one left in the country was 21k so over budget, but had they been able to supply me one for 18k I would have given it serious consideration
