Are aftermarket coil pack plug leads terminated in the same order as original Ford Visteon units? 4.0 L 6 cyl is the engine type in question.

Some of them are also used for other applications and the lead terminals are numbered differently.

AU2-3 Visteon coilpack with the 4,5 & 6 terminals on the plug side. Motorcraft V6 coil pack for Ford Cougar and similar.4,5 & 6 on the opposite side of the plug. This unit cross references to the NGK U2023 which is also listed for the AU 2 3 Falcon. Cheers Bill

Ok got it; a V6 has a different firing order (1 4 2 5 3 6) to an inline 6 as in the AU Falcon (1,5,3,6,2,4) and different banked paired firing order; their is actually only 3 coils in the coil pack with each coils serving two cylinders and firing together. So you need one designed for your car presumably the AU Falcon. A V6 one won't work on the inline 6 as the firing order and pairing of coils is different; the V6 coil pack has the 3 and the 6 paired rather than required 6 and 1 paired. Similarly. you won't be able to use an inline 6 coil pack on a V6.
I have an inline 6 mentality but I guess with the demise of Ford Australia's manufacturing and the death of the Oz inline 6 I will have to (reluctantly) open my mind to V6 thinking.

A check of NGK's online catalogue has the U2023 coil pack for the 2001 Cougar and AU 2-3 as the same.
So does Bosch with BIC721 https://au.bosch-automotive-shop.com...orgot_password Anyone use either of these?

Note on the EDIS system each ignition fires 2 spark plugs simultaneously; one spark plug on the compression stroke which uses most of the ignition coil energy and one spark plug on the exhaust stroke that uses very little of the coil energy. The two fired plugs are connected in series with one firing negative to ground and one firing positive to ground. The four pins on the coil socket on the inline coil pack are also:
Pin 1: Cylinders 1 and 6 Pin 2: Cylinders 2 and 5 Pin 3: Cylinders 3 and 4 Pin 4: VPWR THE ECU when receiving a signal from the camshaft position sensor also checks to see if the two related coils have fired and, to prevent two cylinder misfiring and destroying the catalytic converter when the unburnt fuel from the 2 cylinders explodes in the converter, and if not turns off the two injector associated with that coil. I just can't see the V6 one with the different coil configuration and socket pins working on your inline 6. The ECU will shut the injectors down.... or if not you will get that explosion in the cat.

Use the factory firing order sequence
