Question Fat rims / white indicator repeaters...

I've signed up to be a member but don't know if I'm one yet. And unfortunately none of my friends are revheads so none of them can help me, which is why my question ain't too perplexing, but...

What is the max width rim to go on an EL? I'm looking at 8.5, but don't know if that's too fat for the front.

Also, does anyone know how to get NL side indicators into an EL?

All you guys make my EL look tame, but I'm keen for a cruize...

you can use 8.5" rims, no clearance issues that I know of, but your insuance company may only be happy with 8" wide rims, so check first.

EL GT came out with 8.5inch wide rims i believe so shouldn't be a problem. The latest street fords mag claims you can fit upto 10inch under the rear provided the offset was designed properly...

but its not an EL GT is what the insurance company argue, many people have tried to convince an insurance company, but best I know, they have all failed.

8.5" will fit on the front of an EL, aussuming the design is EL GT style. The tyres may hit the plastic shroud behind the bumper at full lock, but thats all it hits with Tickford height at the front. Any lower, you will probably need the guards rolled.

Mu car is insured with AAMI, and they were the only ones who would do it. They are listed as alloy wheels, and their claim is if they are ADR approved, then they are insurable.

I checked with NRMA a while back and they told me that 7 inch was OK. 7.5 to 8 Ok but with 0 to 5mm positive offset. They never even mentioned 8.5.

Thanks for the input fellas. Cheers PULLY6.

I called Queensland Transport and it sounds like as long as the rolling circumference doesn't change, you can have just about any width.

As for insurance, I changed to Shannons and now I'm actually saving $80 a month. NRMA wouldn't let me lower the car more than 30mm and wouldn't allow wider than standard width wheels. With Shannons I can keep my car 100mm off the earth and have the fattest legal rims I can find.

That's a bugger about the rims. I don't really want to have to roll the guards out to accomodate big fat 'uns. Unless anyone tells me otherwise, I might go with 7.5s on the front and 8.5s on the back, if that's legal. The dude at Bob Jane said I'll need spacers to fit the rims I want. Does anyone know anything about them or where to find them?

Fit mags. Will cruze.
