Talking Silvertop Zetec

Hey,

Im in the process of building a silvertop zetec, ill have to check the valve springs to see if its the early silvertop or later silvertop.....

can anyone tell me how strong the standard bottom end is? it will be NA and run big cams, plus twin throttle bodies and spin up to around 7500 to 8.

can someone also tell me the differences between the silvertop and the black top? what will bolt to a black top from a silvertop?

Cheers

assuming its the same zetec as what was used in europe if its got dohc stamed on the rocker cover its an early one, if its got zetec16v its a later one. most had the recall for sticking valves in europe though so as long as its used with 5w30 you shouldnt have that issue.
silvertop cranks are good for at least 250bhp in standard trim. many are turbo'd in the uk with no problems.

Blacktop has longer rods and lower piston crowns, and doesnt have hydraulic lifters. Engine from an st170 focus was the best NA engine, due to forged pistons. your best source for info will be the uk based forum www.passionford.com

Awesome Thanks for that, a set of h beams and forged pistons should see me safe then. I dont think sticking valves will be a problem, its going into a mk1 2 door circuit car so will be tuned for BP ultimate and never sit below 3000 rpm or full throttle lol

Cheers.
