Hocus Pocus it’s theFocus.
134 kw vs 125 240nm vs 202 and Focus is at 1400 rpm Toyota 4400 rpm approx. Focus 8 speed auto vs Toyota 6 speed Ford Sync 3 infotainment vs Toyota 2011 infotainment Focus will out handle the Toyota and out drive it. So what do you want? A drivers car or an appliance? |

Also, with the Toyota, make sure you will be happy with the lack of boot space and rear legroom. The current Focus is very well packaged in regards to interior space.

Want to keep the car as long as possible. I know the previous Focus had issues with that stupid tranny they were using and apparently this is the all new (8F24) 8 speed auto. I have no idea how long they would last and there isn't much info on the net about it whereas the cvt that Toyota uses in the Corolla has gone over 200,000ks for many people with no issues

I had 3 Focuses an L S an LT and an LZ. Like any machine if you look after it it will look after you. I d get the auto serviced on time in spec at a quality automatic transmission specialist. The 3 I owned ran to 130000, 278000 and 130000kms. Ford make a good product with the exception of the LW series fitted with the reputation destroying powershift automatic dual clutch gearbox. Ford .. last the distance? Sure can! |

A Corolla of that year may only have a 3 year warranty, so nearly gone. The Focus would still have at least 3 years' warranty left.
On the other hand, according to legend, a Corolla is less likely to need any warranty.

I think it is "just" legend. I've been in 3 Corolla's with issues, carby gasket causing surging, not sure what was the problem with the 2nd but was left stranded, and a door seal splitting (at a point where they were joined at manufacture) on a third which was annoying in the rain. Apparently a Hilux is "unbreakable" but I was also left waiting on the side of the road due to a bad coil (back when you only had one). So... I've never really considered a toy-motor of my own.

Focus, not only does it look better, it has a better infotainment, better dynamics and doesn't have a CVT.
But drive them both.

Corolla does have a tiny boot, but does at least come with a full size alloy spare.
I think I preferred the previous corolla, the cvt was fine in it for round town use. New one has a torque converter to apparently make things smoother, but there's a noticeable thump in the driveline when pulling away which could only be the converter. They all do it, got a million of them a work. Oh their auto park brake actuator get squeeky as they age.

If I was going for a Corolla the only one I’d go for is the ZR hatch in hybrid. I think it looks fantastic, plus I think the hybrid is the better drive train for the Corolla.
But out of the two you’ve listed, I’d go the Focus. Better warranty, motor, gearbox, looks better.

Anyone who thinks that Focus looks better than the Corolla has badge blindness, its probably the least attractive Focus in 10yrs.
Theres a reason why Corolla sells 20+ times as many as Focus in any given month and it has nothing to do with power, torque, infotainment, fleet sales or even sheep mentality which the usual suspects will point to. If you plan on keeping it long term there will be a **** load more spares available for the Corolla in 5+yrs time when the warranty has expired and you're footing any repair bills. Have u considered Cerato GT? |

I looked up the Trend vs ST-Line and there wasn't much difference, so maybe this will help:

I'd prefer the focus as a better spec and driving car and also as I tend to be a keeper resale is not a big a concern. If it is a short term purchase then the coralla may make more financial sense.

It's all much of a muchness unless you'd like a manual gearbox (most reviews I read said the Focus dial auto was not that good as it was 'slow' and the paddles essentially useless). ...then there's only one choice. In my opinion the Corolla is a bit overpriced for what you get. In a choice between the two listed by the OP I'd go the Focus. ...but I went the Hyundai. |

People buy Corolla because it has reputation and longevity on its side, it has less power, less cogs, less torque, less gadgets yet still creams Focus month to month, if people really cared for those things the gap would be much smaller but it isnt because the majority of people arent enthusiasts. |

Bit more to why Corolla beats Focus in sales.
On the Ford side Powershift turned buyers away from Ford. On the Toyota side Hybrid Corolla sells like hot cakes and a lot to fleets. Ford doesnt chase fleet sales as I understand. Corolla offers a wider range of models Sedan Manual option Hybrid option Hatch Ford only offer auto hatch and no hybrid. And then there is the Toyota reputation. Fords brand is tarnished unless it’s Ranger/Everest/Mustang |

If people buy things on reputation alone, which is what you wrote, that sounds a lot like sheep mentality to me. Next time you post, write it out, then have a read and a bit of a think before you press the submit button. Powershift didn’t kill the Focus, it never really got going in the first place since it’s 2002 launch. That was one botched launch. |

My reference to spare parts on a vehicle out of warranty is just that, something to consider if intending long term ownership, i never said it was why they sell which is how you interpreted it, and lets be honest, the way Ford have been flip flopping lately over offerings i certainly wouldnt put money on Focus being around locally in 5yrs time as opposed to the Corolla which is a Toyota staple. Truth is, youre just one of those butt hurt Ford devotee's that cant handle the fact that a perceived appliance outsells your precious no matter how good it is and rather than acknowledge the decision making of thousands of owners who feel the Corolla is a worthwhile option, you demean them by calling them sheeple to make yourself feel better about no one wanting your Focus. If it were me i wouldnt buy either, id get the Cerato GT, its more powerful, has more torque, quicker and comes with heaps of warranty...and also sells ****loads more than your Focus, but thats just facts. |
