Hey guys....
very sad at the moment, had the new engine in it for like 2 months, wen torquay on friday night with the boys, drove my EA with the EBGT body kit on it, stayed at a caravan/cabin joint till sunday, b4 we left on friday, did all checks on her, coolant, oil, everything, power steering fluid etc, anyways, as were coming home, my cars just ticking slowly, i was bit concerned, but ive herd it b4 in werribee as im driving round, so i keep driving, then it just gets louder, and faster....im getting really scared, my exhuast starts to splutter wen i drive, like a cylinder wasnt sparking..., pulled over, i had my mate in my car, he just turned 18 today...and it was a constand BANG BANG BANG idle, checked the oil, it was full...but also remembered the oil was cheapo oil, that we didnt bother changing the oil thinking its full, so its fine, it got hot, (traffic stop, go, stop, go) in geelong and the oil compression gauage just went down to nothing, and thats wen the ticking started...it was thinned out, and wasnt milky, it was lubricating the engine anymore...opened the oil cap, and it was just pooring out white smoke, it was toasted oil, let it kool down, 1 hour later my old man comes, starts the car, all u hear is constant bang bang bang then it popped...:( gone, my reco'd 3.9L just died), towed it home from geelong, and i still cant belive what has happenend....:( live and learn i guess, i learnt my lesson, never take the car on a weekend trip with cheap oil in it...never again will i buy cheap oil....well anyway, thats my story...im very sad now. |

Oils just aint oils It just sucks **** when something goes wrong. I've blown a set of oil rings out. Just luckily enough I had a spare set. Whipped out the new old ones and put a new set in. Problem fixed.
Cheap oil for run in. Change @ 1000k's. Run normal oil from then on. No cold revving as this hurts the engine.

do you have any warranty on the reco engine.
If you can prove it was the oil you might have a claim against the people who sold it to you. it might have a faulty oil pump and by driving it you may have done more damamge pull the engine out replace the bearings get the crank checked out and put a new oil pump |

who reco-ed the engine i would be taking it back to them...it may not be the oil.. i can't see that cheapo oil would cause that much damage to an engine. anyway good luck with it grechie

Mate, I'd doubt very much if the oil had *anything* do do with your engine failure. Unless you used chip oil, I'd say the fault lies squarely with the mob that did the engine.

hmmm we got it from a wreckers who had it reco'd warrenty i dont have, we shall be paying the wrecker a visit for sure ... to get to the bottom of this, the cars sittin in the garage, after i just bought a high flow cat to complete my exhuast system, and it goes and does this...:( well i shall be checking out the situation of it tomoz thanxk for the replys but

I had the same kinda thng happen one time in my ea. an engine that had supposed to have had a recondition started tapping loudly and close to no oil pressure. i took it to the local mechanic and the oil pump was loose on the block which was where the oil pressure was going.

There's two halves to the Falcon one. The bottom is cold and the top is hot.
At least that's how it is on my EB dipstick, haven't checked the XEs. |

Sorry to hear but trust me wreckers don't make good engine builders as a rule.
I owned and ran a wrecking yard in the early 80's and we sold lots of engines. reco engines were not all equal though. There were second hand engines hot tested and checked with original mileage from wrecks. There were S/Hand rebuilt engines fixed up enough to have good equal compressions. Usually valves and rings done with a gasket set and lots of nice paint. There were Imported S/Hand engines cleaned started and tested for compression only. There were full long and short bottom end reconditioned engines which we bought from ERS or higginbottom's and resold on a non exchange basis as we had plenty of duds to send them. Mostly where we had a problem like yours we would give you another engine after inspecting your car to check there was oil in it and the radiator and cooling system were OK. We would give warranty on all our S/H and reco engines subject to a post installation inspection where we didn't fit them ourselves. It's here we would find the mostly hard up customers would scrimp so badly we wouldn't warranty the engine though. Simple things but like putting a new engine in with a radaitor you could run your finger through all the fins and they would fall off in your hand! The best engines to get from a wrecking yard were the ones taken from fairly new model wrecks where you could see the car and its mileage and verify it wasn't from a flood! etc. Remembering that a lot of people in the business are ETHICALLY CHALLENGED and you have to be careful in who or what you trust. |

I wouldnt say all wreckers are the same. I have worked for one part time for the last 3 or 4 years and guess what i do there? yep i reco engines.I can say that everyone that we have done has a full 12 month warranty plus the first service free and we have only had 2 come back with a problem and that was due to the owner playing with the timing. I am not saying you didnt get a dud but i dont think it is fair to paint them all the same.

i'm not sure if wrecking yards are allowed to sell anything without a 3 mth warranty . also if it was reco'd it should've stated on the recept. you've been had brother . secondly if you got a reco'd engine from the wrecker without a warranty or receipt . then more fool you you probably paid next to nothing for it and got caught out . thems the risks you run . remember the old saying you get what you pay for . some things dont add up here and they dont seem in your favour . the best you can hope for is an exchange for nothing or a cheaper 2nd engine off the wrecker. dont worry though sometimes cheapies work in your favour . sometimes they don't. that is why they are very cheap and sometimes its worth the risk . I thought you were meant to check engine oil once the engine is hot? Or have I been doing it wrong all of these years! lol.
Hey grechie maybe you can take this opportunity to rebuild the engine with performance bits, put an aftermarket cam in, headwork etc.. would be nice! |

i dont know what all the talk is about engine oil levels for this has nothing to do with your engine if it had oil in it . the cheapest oil you can buy (motor oil) has to meet specifications deeming it suitable as an engine oil . otherwise it cant be sold in australia by law.
