If the Australian Government follows the US lead, not that that ever happens :yeees: , we might have to say goodbye to our falcons sooner that we would like.

You have to wonder what impact this has on any plans to export '08 falcon architecture to the US.

It doesn't effect VE, it says cars after Camaro, which are as yet unannounced, but even Camaro wasn't going to get built in Aus. Theres a VE plant being built in Canada to manufactuer the US requirements. The Aussie plant was to build niche products (a 50,000 unit American Niche fills up the line nicely in Aus).
Also the engine in Holdens is the US one, so any changes to economy in base engines will be immediately reflected in the VE engines and hence in the exports. So its neutral to Holden. Lastly its flag flying anyway, GM starting the ball rolling on adjustments to the proposals or getting concessions to gain some advantage over other importers "cause were Americans". |

You're right, that is more interesting. Whether it be Holden or Ford though, I love the fact that we are recognised as the future for the US market in RWD cars. Some clever and committed cookies on the job down here!

Also if the Bush administration wants a Mandate of 34 mpg by 2017 then you can forget about big cubed V8 engines coming out of the states to power our sedans in the future as well. Not good! I wonder if this is well and truly the start to the end of an era, as we have already had some false starts in the past! |

The decision by the US government to enforce an ’average’ fuel consumption target will impact us here no doubt. I think it’s fair to assume we are just about at the top of the HP wave and its all down hill from here. : |

34MPG is about 8l/100km. The I6 and HF6 would get close to that with direct injection and some other changes. As for V8's, Diesels would be getting close to that now, so maybe the future is just a change of technology and getting used to more torque.

Interesting tidbit read about the holden six export to China in today's paper. Seems the Statesman is being rebadged as Buick Royaum .
