Default Rev limiter problem Mondeo XR5

Hi folks,

Have a problem with my Mondeo XR5 - it doesn't want to rev past about 5,900rpm although very occasionally it will still rev cleanly through to about 6,500rpm. The car is now 1 month out of factory warranty, so I'll have to dip into my pocket to get Ford to look at it.

Anyone had a similar problem or have any ideas what might be causing it?

I have recently installed a Bluefin remap which has improved the engine's overall performance but hasn't fixed the issue.

Help!

Don't know much about this, but it might help if can tell us whether it happens in all or just certain gears.

Hi - I have had the same problem for approx 18 months now with my car and Ford in Townsville have had it in there workshop for approx 5 weeks in total trying to rectify it - they have literally tried everything - in fact got it back today from them with replacement BCM (fusebox under dash) still hasn't fixed it. They want to drive it to Brisbane next to the teaching school to try and rectify. I cant tell you how fed up I am with this problem - paying a premium price for a 'performance car' that does not perform. I have arranged a meeting with the dealer principle next week and am also trying to find out advice on fair trading. My ar has now got 55k on the clock and I have driven it for 35k with the fault - I now refer to it as an XR 4 1/2.

Love the rest of the car but having driven another one - am really frustrated I am missing out on the true performance.

Contact Alan(service manager at Carmicheal Ford in Townsville) and he will probably like vto here about your problem to see if its the same.

Hope this helps - probably not though - Jack

From memory the problem was fixed by cleaning the air filter. You would think ford would have sorted this out by now if it was the same problem. Worth checking though.

Yep, it was a breathing problem which was sorted by fitting an ECU/airbox spacer (http://www.fordforums.com.au/showthread ... spacer+xr5) and cleaning the air filter.

Spacer = Best $50 I've spent on the car. A couple of scratched knuckles and about an hour's work, but now the car revs sweetly.

Good luck Jack.

I finished up having them laser cut out of 8mm polycarbonate, they work well, the ECU cover goes back on with the 8mm plate, mines been installed since 2008 and has now done over 80,000k's without a problem, even had it back to the dealer for servicing a couple of times and never bothered to remove it, still have a few left if anybody wants one, they also fit XR5 Focus and a few Volvo models. PM me and I'll send ya the info.

I'll be sending you a PM quick smart paulie! The wife's new car is an XR5T, and one of your ECU spacers would be just the ticket to be one of the first mods!
Good work,
Russell.

Thumbs up Re: Rev limiter problem Mondeo XR5

Got the spacer Paul. Thankyou very much for that!
Your attention to detail is unreal. Everything needed to do the job, and instructions for the noobs. Even I couldn't stuff this up ;-)
Cheers mate.
Russell.

Update on mine - 9 weeks down in Brisbane with Ford and have got it back fixed - told me it was wiring to the O2 sensor - do I believe them - probably not. But the problem is now rectified - not bad after 42,000km !!!!!
