Default Dr Lites Replacement Headlights

Maybe a repost and apologies if this is the case.

http://www.drllites.com.au

Has anyone seen an actual example of a replacement headlight on a VE or similar? Their website says that they are working on FG and Territory models too. Might be a reasonable cost to get OEM style LED running lights and projectors.

The VE cost was $599 for the pair, plug and play.

Hi,
There is a video on youtube with their test lights for BA/BF - having a few issues but hopefully they will be good. I just wish Ford had fitted projectors in the first place - reflectors are rubbish in comparison.
Cheers

At least the DRL's are intergrated into the housing, should be good for FG owners.

I like black surround VE ones, but I think they'd look heaps better without the led DRL's, which kind of defeats the purpose.

I actually don't mind DRLs, if they are intergrated within the headlight like audi have done. The FG lights would look good i reckon.

We could move the tab a few mm or cut it off - lol

Maybe the test car has had the bar damaged - I would be fitting to 3 or 4 test cars before selling to the public

The LEDs are too far apart too look wicked

Wonder if they auto dim when the indicator is on like the Audi's and others

Love LEDs - if only available for EF

Remove plastic lense (easy on EF-EL cornerlights), place LED strip in lower park light section of housing.

Wire into parkglobe, or if cleaver, seperate loom to allow seperate DRL/parker use.

Glue lense on, install, enjoy.

I was thinking of getting some of these and just not connecting the DRL part. I just want them for the projectors.

I second what BFZF8 said. Will definitely buy these solely for the projectors!

+1 for my BA. Unless the LED's are closer together and not as bright and put somewhere that looks very intergrated. I'd prefer them as parkers too and not on all the time.

A Genuine Holden Headlamp is $300, for 2 that is $600...

So, not real cheaper, and doesn't come with factory backed warrenty.

Those lights are terrible.
Look at all the dodgy wiring coming out of them. For heavens' sake solder the wiring loom and then use that spaghetti shrink to enclose it properly.
You'd want plug and play, not plug and pray that the lights stay on when you hit a bump, or a puddle.

Hi,
I will reserve judgment when the production units come out. The one featured is only a prototype and the wiring is temporary - the production units for the Commodore are plug in so there is no reason not to expect the same. I just want projectors - they are on the wife's BMW and really show up how poor our reflector setups are.
Cheers
Tom

Not all projectors are made equally, there are cheap quality projectors just like there are cheap quality car parts and anything else made in China.

Also, the BMW will most likely be HID (xenon) lights, whereas these lights will use normal halogen bulbs.
Yes you could add an HID kit to these headlights and increase their output, but they are still going to perform far lower than that of something like the BMW.

I'd like to see some photos of the beam pattern and output.

It's illegal in all states and territories of Australia.
Plenty of people already have illegal stuff fitted to their cars, including HID kits, and plenty of people will continue to fit illegal stuff to their cars, including HID kits... lol.

Are these headlights from Dr.Lights going to be ADR approved?

Geez I hope not because they look bloody ridiculous and serve no point whatsoever.

I wonder how many of those who are saying 'I love them I want some' are the same who say 'foglights are illegal, **** factor etc etc' ........

Hi Mad,

Couldnt agree more - and yep the BMW does have HID's. Interesting enough - the Bosch projectors in the BMW do get a bad rap compared to the Asian aftermarket if some of the reviews are to be believed - yet I find them excellent.

Light output is important but only if it is properly focussed. Even the halogen bulbs have hot spots with the reflectors provided on the Falcon. I really love my ute but the headlights are very ordinary and the 'yellow' light is tireing compared to the HID's.

Cheers
Tom

r8 is an luxury limo which can get away with a bita showing off...its like chromies to me, just leave it for sweeds to rock out

The DRL's must be independent of park, low and high beam by deactivating immediately any of those functions are activated by the driver.

Performance of DRL must fall within ADR.

If you're referring to DRL, they make a car more visable in the day.

saw a VE ute with what must have been these headlights and i thought it actually looked quite classy. I'm the sort of person that wouldn't touch these sorts of mods because they usually look tacky and cheaper than factory but i have to say they did look nice and factory'ish'!

Have done a photoshoot on a VE with these headlights. If you didn't know whether or not they are factory built you'd be struggling to pick up on it, they looked like quality
