Default Speakers, what are you running?

Hey guys, first time poster in here :P

My GF wants to upgrade the speakers in her AU Lane and Im keen to see what you guys have replaced with.

There arent many 5x7's on the market I can find in shops which is a pain!

Looking for something not massively expensive, but not Audioline quality either :P

Your help would be great!

-Pete

I've got Alpine Type X splits in mine (with aftermarket amp and head unit) but if you don't want the drama/cost of setting something like that up, you could do worse that the Hertz 5" x 7"s.
Had I not got carried away at the time I was sorting out my setup, I would have quite happily installed the Hertz's. Not the cheapest but they represented excellent value for money.

good upgrade for speakers? is a turbo (with the V8) and a 3" exhaust.... :P

naa, i have just cheap 5x7's made by Sony... the Xplode brand.. nice quality... as for the back, Sony Xplode 6" speakers... i think their two way and sound bloody tuff and no loss of bass/voice at full volume

edit: i dont go full out on sound systems either and are good for day to day use... the speakers have been in there since the month after we got it (installed sep 2007) and they still go hard

kenwood double din headunit.
stock front door speakers running off the headunit
6x9 kenwood 3-way rear speakers off a sony xplode 2channel 350 watt amp
12" kenwood sub off a kenwood 1000 watt mono block.

IMO.. kenwood is great stuff for a decent price.
I wouldnt use anything other then 6x9 in the rears. the sound quality a half decent set can produce is a cut abover any other type of speaker.

Hertz Hi Energy range, really great sound. Changed all four speakers plus the sub, added a 1500w Digital Amp. Just changing the factory speakers made a huge improvement

Do you have to cut anything to fit the 6x9s in the rear?

Guessing some form of spacer for the fronts to fit 6" aswell?

Don't know about 6 x 9s... I don't sit in the back seat so they're usually faded out.

My front Type X's are 6.5". They only just fit with mdf spacers.
If you search, there is a thread where I posted pics of the spacers I made.
I'm a bit short of time but if you can't find I'll it have a look later.

To make spacers trace a 5x7 spacer on a pics of 6-7pm mdf and then trace out on that the 6' speaker trace that out and it's done.
Alpine deck with stock speakers is amazing

Mild upgrade = 5x7 polk audio, I think JL audio do some as well.

Wild = Hertz splits 5x7's (I 'think' alpine might also make them)

Got the Hertz in my front doors and they are out of this world! Would go a 6" split though as I had trouble mounting mine.

Head Unit - Alpine 9886
Front Speakers - stock splits
Rear speakers - stock
Sub - Alpine S series 12"
Amp - Alpine Monoblock MRP-M1000

front and rear speakers work great off the head unit as is. I like my music to have quality not loud. The speakers do that at a reasonable level of volume. I know I could upgrade to better front splits and rears but found the quality of the stock speakers improved a lot just with the head unit alone. The sub just tops it off for me.

4xalpine 5x7 type R's. 1xalpine 12" sub. 2xalpine amp. Pioneer HU.

Makes for a fairly good basic setup without too many dollars invested.

Not sure about other series, but my series 1 the parcel shelf has moulded 5x7 mounts for the stock speakers. So you do need a 6x9 spacer. just sit it on top of the mounts.

I run (ran) Kicker 6 inch splits in the front, 6 inch two wys in the rear. JVC headunit, Fusin 12 inch in the boot. And a 550w RMS monoblock amp.
In the monty, I ran stock tweeters, clarion 6's in the front, 6x9's in the rear, head unit, amp and 2 x 12's. All Clarion. I liked the clarion system better, but the Kicker/fusion setup was pretty good too.

Yea, unless your putting sound deadner on the parcel shelf i wouldnt mount them from the bottom. (if your amping them) i suppose running off the h/u would be fine.

let us know how much you want to spend and I can make some suggestions, Generally oval speakers are ***** so try and stick with a good pair of component speakers if budget permits.

I just have a set of Soundstream 5x7s all round, with a 12" sub in the boot. It is only the family car and sounds good for the movies that play on the roof mount tv, and the headrest tvs.

The other car is a different story though...

I havent put them in yet but will more than likely go with Clarion 5x7's for simple ease of installation - and I get them dirt cheap through work.

Rockford Fosgate, Alpine, Pioneer, Kenwood and Clarion all make 5x7 speakers so if you cant find them you're not looking hard enough.
