Would it come down to keeping costs low or do these companies bank on the success/recognition of the brand to bolster sales? (Probably both now that I think about it)

Those pictures are not official Ford ones, just some journos guess!!

My only question would be if the current plant can't keep up with demand on just the Ute only, what hope does it have when they add this? Also, if this 7 seater makes it way to the US, they’ll need more again. Does this still leave the door open for Australia to still manufacturing Ranger ute & Ranger 7 seater here with exports of the 7 seater to the US? It is clear Ford needs more production capacity for this vehicle. Figures crossed..

There is no indication the SUV will share the same look as the Ranger. All we have seen thus far is 'chops and guesswork. Let's wait and see what the real deal looks like, you may be pleasantly surprised

If it was made & released here in australia it would spell the end of the territory....... Something tells me it won't happen..... they cannot keep pace with production of the present model Rangers.

All of its market competitors do though, so what justification would Ford have to differentiate the nose?

Prado doesn't. The justification would be that it doesn't want the vehicle looking like a tradies ute.

I doubt it will be made here for the same reason the Ranger ute isn't made here. It's just too expensive to produce cars here compared to the other manufacturing facilities available to Ford.

I could be wrong here, but I am expecting the SUV to be of a 'newer' look to that of the T6 Ute. The Ute will then follow suit and adopt the updated look.

But hey, it's just guess work on my part.

Prado's not really a competitor though, they have the Fortuner in that market globally.

Looks great so far, I agree the front end needs a bit of a change to help it stand out from being a ranger but I love the rear end treatment.

Would the SUV have IRS or would it use the live axel/leaf springs as the Ute?

I was pretty much set on a Ranger as my next car, but this Everest might now be in the running too.

Pathfinder has the donor ute's front end design and looks quite good I think. I wouldn't be against having the Ranger front on an SUV.

I like the look of it. Drop in an Ecoboost V6 or a Coyote 335 and call it a Bronco.

No IRS but there will more than likely be 2 versions of rear suspension. I'm thinking there may be a cheap version to replace the Everest in low cost markets, and a more upmarket version for countries like ours.

Got a good look at a complete chassis the other day.

Live axle with coils? I wonder what sort of trim options they will offer seeing as it will be pitched as a 'family wagon' much moreso than the Ranger.

Gee I must be in the minority, I reckon Colorado 7 looks like @#^$ and I can't see a Ranger version looking much better.

Am I missing something is this not the sort of thing that Territory was designed for?

Territory wasnt designed to go offroad.
Ranger has 800mm wading depth, which is only bettered by the new Range Rover. (900mm, but it has variable suspension)
Even the Landcruiser 200 is only 700mm.

A Ranger wagon has the potential to be one of the Worlds best offroad wagons.

It like Toyota selling the Kluger and Prado. The T6 SUV will be pointed up against the Prado here, with Territory positioned against the Kluger. Overseas the T6 SUV, which will more than likely come in a cheaper, lower spec version for some markets, will be positioned against the Toyota Fortuna, which is an SUV version of the Hilux.

I think Ford will be making a version to compete with Prado, and a cheaper version to compete against the Fortuna, as a direct replacement for the current Everest. Seems that way anyway, and it makes sense having the 2 versions as the current Everest is a cheap SUV which is not a direct fit to compete with an upmarket SUV like the Prado. So kills 2 birds with the one stone. I guess time will tell.

You're right about the Colorado 7 though, what an ugly piece of ****. Probably explains why they only sold 60 odd last month.

Yeah that will be the major issue, supply.

There is a factory in Australia that might be able to build some..

The old Everest was a pretty big seller in Thailand, used to see almost as many of them as the Toyota wagon version.

I dont know how this would go alongside the Territory in Australia though?
No doubt it would steal sales.

thats just a photo shop using an explorer. I really hope they maintain the ground clearence of the ute and put a decent size rear wagon section on it. You need the rear floor space of something like a BA falcon wagon. We have a terrotory with a cargo barrier and an Fg sedan and its easier to put my bike in the sedan than in the terry. In a couple of years time will be looking at buying a proper 4x4 wagon and rear cargo space with be a major deciding factor. The rear space in some of these 4x4s is crazy small.

Couldn't disagree more with this.

The Kluger / Prado still sell very well against the Full Sized Landcruiser.

This gives people (like me - with 4 kids) something to move up to from the Territory.

Once my kids get too big for the Terry (and it will happen - the back row ain't made for adults or teens) I'll need to go bigger. Ford currently has nothing in their range that suits my needs at all - which means I'll need to brand swap.

The Everest gives me a viable option to stay with the Brand, and step up from the Territory into something else similar.
