these two AUs i kinda wish ford said "lets make them and give the holden monaro ago and beat holden for not having a commodore duel cab ute atm" I know there AUs but i just wonder if they would of sold?? I think 0-100 km/h in 4.6 seconds is pretty impressive for a car of that age. think thats on par with W427??? with less horsepower and a smaller V8 (4.6L compared too 7L). probabbly would of handelled better too.

The 300+ coupe was done by millard conversions...the story has it was based on a hillier coupe, they also did a 4 door.
It gets a bit confusing, as Hillier did a green forte coupe, then a red XR8...but some say the 300 + was built from a Hillier converted car...but at the same time, the hillier bros' and Roman autotek were working on the "arrow" coupe...(the green gold with merc headlights....) The R5, while a novel concept, was no more then a BA styling exercise and territory development demonstrator.

I believe the history with the 300+ was that AEC / Millard Diesgin wanted to do a run of "normal" versions of the car to help amortise costs but FoA was cold on the idea and it went no further. That's according to GoAuto at the time.

Well, think about it. The BA came out about a year later...why would Ford put money behind a low selling coupe version of a old model?
Same with the engine...Ford was tied up with the 5.4...

What killed them was Territory, not necessarily BA. It was the right decision anyway, Territory is still in production but neither Crewman or Monaro are.

Master stroke!
R7 concept... The R5 is probally the most interesting concept car Ford released...not only did it preview the BA/Territory interior...but what was to come over the next 10 years... At the time, we were none the wiser. Glory days of Ford ironically was the Au era...concept after concept.

Anyone who was lucky enough to hear the Venom ute in person would have it embedded in their minds.

VT was what the public wanted...a safely styled car. Also, it came out when the EL was still being sold...in an effort to attract customers, the EL had massive price reductions.
The the AU was unleashed...and people didn't click with the styling.

Only from an enthusiasts point of view. The lights may already be out if they didnt have Territory though.

The only other Ford show car that has made me go wow was the black TS50 all those years back.
The R5 was great, and still today people wont believe you that Ford had the idea first, GMH just had the nads to build it and good on them for trying..guess the market decided otherwise.

Yeah I saw that picture. Shame it doesn't show the ICC - would have liked to have seen if it was a hybrid between the AU + BA or more BA focused. Door trims are very close by the looks at least!
