Mitsubishi has recalled 17,540 2011/2012-plated Triton utes.
Mitsubishi Australia has recalled more than 20,000 vehicles because of a welding fault in the front suspension control arms. The recall applies to 17,540 Triton utes (2011/2012-plated) and 2865 Challenger SUVs (2011/2012-plated) built prior to Friday May 11, 2012. Both 2WD and 4WD variants fitted with front suspension lower control arms are affected. The Triton and Challenger are based on the same ladder frame chassis and have remained largely unchanged since they were first released in 2005. The recall notices say that, if the weld fails, the problem “will be readily detected by the driver as the vehicle will become unstable, pulling to either left or right side of the road.” Advertisement It goes on to warn that the defect could pose a hazard to the driver and other road users. Mitsubishi Australia spokeswoman Shayna Walsh said the recall was not provoked by instances of the weld failing. “There have been no reported failures in Australia, nor have we been informed of any incidents in any other markets,” she said. “Customers need to contact their local dealer to book a time for an inspection. They can contact Mitsubishi Customer Assistance on 1300 131 211.” A statement posted on the federal government’s national recall website says: “As a precaution prior to inspection, customers should operate the vehicle in a conservative manner to avoid excessive shock load on the parts that may be affected. “All owners of affected vehicles have been contacted by mail sent to their last known address. Owners are requested to contact the nearest Mitsubishi authorised service dealer at their earliest convenience to make an appointment to have your vehicle rectified. “Owners who believe their vehicle is in the affected range and who have not received a letter by the 22nd November 2013 or require further information regarding this recall should call the Mitsubishi Customer Assistance Centre on 1300 13 12 11 and select option 4, then select option 2.” Visit the recall website for more information: Triton: http://www.recalls.gov.au/content/in...itemId/1053618 Challenger: http://www.recalls.gov.au/content/in...itemId/1053621
