Hi gents
This is my gpa's old car. He's long passed and my old man now owns the farm and this car, which hasn't seen the light of day for 15+ years, is now in the way. It's pretty badly damaged down the whole passenger side but the interior doesn't look too bad considering. It's a 302.. Couldn't tell you anything else. My old man (70's) thinks it is worth something. I've told him to ring sims metal. What do you think?

I agree, there is some value in it, more than what Sims will give you.
At least try and sell it first, put up with all the DH's and stupid comments, but a few grand is better than a few hundred.

Don't send it to Sims metal.
Someone will do their nuts just over those genuine Ford headlight covers - they'll pay more just for those than what Sims Metal will give you. |

Yeah, there is some value in it if someone wants to buy it. But it depends if theres any sentimental value to the car and if you have the space, ability and finances to do anything with it. Sentimental value you cannot put a dollar price on. If you were to scrap it it wouldnt fetch much, if you parted the usable parts out, yeah thats time consuming, but you'd get way more for it and probably still the same at the scrappers.

Thanks for the feedback. Shows how little I'm in touch with the old car scene and what they're worth.
I'll pass on the feedback to my old man. While it is his father's car I don't think there is any sentimental attachment. It's been transported from the farm (100km west of Brisbane) to his house and he wants to sell it. If anyone wants any more info I'll see what I can find out while I'm here. Its 81 or 82 model I think.

A photo of the VIN wouid allow deciding of the specs, it looks like probably 302/C4 driveline same as an LTD that came out of Echuca a couple of years back. (That one had a slightly unusual black interior.)
Photos of the typical XD-XF rust spots would indicate true potential. The denting is nothing, easily repaired by comparison as it hasn’t been hacked at. I think typically the worst rust for repair reasons is that in the lower A-pillars and across the scuttle. More layers to unpick than the rear screen area. |

The v8 running gear would be perfect for someone doing an XD/XE conversion. 5.8 OR 4.9? Please don't send it to scrap someone will make good use of it.

You could also just give it a quick clean and drop it off to Grays for auction, no reserve, it'll sell.

Its the first of the Plastic trims and just doesn't have that Nostalgia of earlier falcons which can fetch 30K plus for that sort of condition. I think its a ZK / FD (1982–1984) which means its a 302 V8 and not the 351 But because its a v8 it will probably fetch 5 grand, that's despite it being slower than the 6 cylinder of the time.... I recon an ebay auction would be the best way to sell it.

That makes it easier. I'll take some more pics and see about doing some kind of ad. What would be the best outlet for this type of thing? Gumtree?
It's surprisingly light on for rust, having a quick inspection. Bottom of rear window around C pillars is a bit bubbly and behind rear wheel arches. Doors look good, as do sill panels etc. A pillars are good. Engine bay looks good but I was a bit scared of getting surprised by a snake or something so didn't get to thorough

You might get a more serious and prompt offer on here, there are some reliable people within cooee who can advise on their thoughts.
Fly spray dissuades snakes, but swap the pluggers for covered shoes to be sure. |

I'd chuck 5 on it and go from there. Fairlanes are not very sort after in that era, people will pay more for a crappy xd falcon then a nice fairlane. That being a factory v8 makes it a bit nicer than a 6cld one. I have a soft spot for these so do keep track of their prices, a pretty nice one will go for around the 10 grand mark.

looks like a ZJ fairlane to me
years of manufacture: 1979 - 1982 had one my self you may get 5k but may be holding it for a while to get that and it may go over night falcons sell easier at same models than fairlanes and i dont know for your area either but its definitely worth something and in the right hands its repairable and would come up nice they wernt a bad vehicle edit:~ ship it to me (like if you sent it to sims) and ill give you an honest $500 now and that be $300 easy more than sims in all honesty i wouldnt need it and youd be better of trying to sell it even if you needed to adjust the price

IMHO... If You prefer to sell It yourself? Either; Ebay, or find a couple relevant Face book Groups. Otherwise get Grays or Lloyds to appraise It & find out how much rape & Pillage will be involved in dealing with them.. Just My 2 cents worth.. |

True. I may even assist him in putting together an ad of some sort but beyond that...
I appreciate all the comments so far. Very insightful.

Too good to scrap, put a few $k on it, as is, where is. I'm sure someone could make a decent streeter out of it..
I love these old Fairlanes... And Greenbank is only 10 minutes from my place... But after ordering a new ranger, spending $25k on on my SSV Redline ($15k Stereo being done now, $10k engine mods after xmas) im quite sure my wife would murder me in my sleep if I bought another car...

Here's a similar one for $6k, but it's a 6cyl.

With the current BS on used car prices, this should be $150K any day of the week
I saw a couple 60 series Land Cruisers up for $30K-$50K, werent even diesel ones. Clown world honk honk Surely Clevo is getting hard to source these days, used 304 is worth drug money from a wrecker now let alone a Clevo. |

As others have said, this should be worth $5K minimum, especially when anything that's even somewhat desirable is getting drug money. And the beauty of this one is that's everything is there & unmolested, no missing parts that might be hard to find. A good starter project for someone. |
