G'day guys.
Im just wondering if its possible to crank the boost up on these babies. I'm sure it would be. I currently have a late 2011 LW Sedan Titanium Powershift Turbo Diesel. Having never owned a TD car before, I just wanna get some info. How much boost pressure does it have stock? How much is deemed safe and reliable? Im looking at getting it flashed to get a few more ponies and am looking at a cold air intake, however the stock one seems to be sufficient? What power adders can I do to this? Stock its, 120kw 340nm, but i wouyld like to see it at around the 180kw mark and mid to high 400's in the torqure range. Last edited by Executer; 29-06-2012 at 02:16 AM. |

Simple "flash" tunes work by upping the standard boost pressure limit and increasing the fuel map. Aka if you want your diesel to run more boost just get it flash tuned. Lots of companies offer it, some are better than others but a generic off the shelf flash tune from a major brand will always be the best. Be very wary of Internet bought ones

I've got a 2010 LV TDCI with 100KW but same torque 340NM, same engine. I've done a bit of research and unfortunately the limitations lie with the Siemens injection system, you wont be able to up the boost much because a limitation with the MAP sensor, you also can't get much more fuel in because the injectors wont flow much past stock levels, there is also no aftermarket injectors because they are piezoelectric type.
All we can really do is cold air intake, exhaust, intercooler, increase fuel pressure and refine the tune so there isn't really much in it, I've been told around 400nm and 130kw at the engine is all you can achieve without massive $$$ outlay. Also its got a dual mass flywheel and a clutch with the strength of a wet sheet of toilet paper. One of the people I talked with said after the tune and mods the clutch started slipping within 10000km. Then there is the issue of getting a remap done, herrod motorsport hasn't tuned a diesel Focus before, other places want to sell me a chip, I want a proper remap. Black Mamba Racing here on the forum said they can do it for just under $2000 for the remap and remove the torque limiter. |

So would I be better off taking it in for a proper dyno tune and getting a few more ponies that way? I may do the cai and get the exhaust done but I havent seen any extractors for this model.
I saw a chip from racechip.de, I know its plug and play. Does this chip up the boost a bit or am I purely better off taking it to Black Mamba Racing for example? Intercooler seems a good idea. I wish there were more ater market diesel products available. |

Chip would probably be better for a standard car to squeeze some extra ponies out of. I've also been talking to a mob in London, they said they can remove the DPF regenerating code while doing a remap from the ECU so you can actually replace it without issues. |

Ford should only update your software if there is a running issue with your car or if there is a TSB out on the vehicle. Normal IDS diagnostic work won't affect your flash tune.
You can fit a larger intercooler by measuring up and using a universal one, not seen any TDCI specific ones available any where yet. Extractors are not what is needed on a turbo diesel engine, leave the turbo manifold alone and fit a decent cat back exhaust. If your not fussed about emissions then decat it. Damo - why do you want to remove the torque limiter??

I'd estimate my car to generate around 130kw / 400nm with my setup, and I haven't had any clutch or engine issues 20,000km and a track day later.
I'm happy with how the car performs so I'm not going to spend any more money on it in terms of manifolds and injection systems, nobody in australia knows enough.

I'll be doing exhaust from the turbo back when funds permit, after taxback most likely, probably leave factory cat though. I want to get rid of the torque limiter or reduce it because first and second gear are hopeless, the car only really starts moving when its in third. |

Cheers.
I probably wont get it flash tuned till about 6 months time. I imagine going a cat back exhaust shouldnt affect the warranty either. How much you reckon for a cat back system? Im also trying to find a good cold air intake setup but I cant seem to find the right one. Anyone know any decent tuners in Melbourne? |

Stuff that. I think I'm just gonna go a flash tune and better air filter. Thats it I reckon unless there a breakthrough in diesel technology overnight.

I've got my focus booked in for a tune next week. I'll let you guys know about how much the tuner can get out of the oem gear.

Ive put up a thread with a ramble and a dyno graph. Unfortunately I didn't think to ask the tuner the questions you had in your first post.

Nice power figures mate. Is it rear wheel power?
