How much will it cost to lower my AU1 Forte? And who is the best for prices and quiality! lol ;-)

got my car lowered 30mm all round with King springs for $495 supplied and fitted..
they seem to be fairly good..
if you want to spend the little extra go for Whileline gear.. its what i will eventually upgrade to.. they have an AU package but its big $$$

If you pay anymore than $120 a pair for the King SL/SSL for AU.. you are being ripped off!! Even eBay sell them for $220 for a full set of four. Good price close to Cheltenham (SE Melbourne) as pick up is possible from the seller (onlineperformance). Or else it'll cost $10-$13 for delivery to anywhere in Victoria.

For the AU1 Forte (read... 4X4 ride height) I suggest SL front and SSL rear. Brings the guard heights to just above the tyres and a flat and straight ride height level front to rear.

My car is lowered 30mm alround, an AUII forte, the front is fine but the back sits up a lot higher. I am happy but if you want your car to look low you may need to go lower. Shop around. The quoted price is too expensive as previously stated.

P.s Your insurance will say get zzzzzz if you lower more than 30mm from stock ride height ensure you check first

Go to autobahn and get the springs, and then get someone else to install them.
I got king SSL and a camber kit for my AU1 forte for $400 and then it cost me $150 to install them.

Im not a fan of SL front and SSL rear, SSL all round look good IMO.

2 months ago i purchased King SL for the front ($125 pair) and SSL for the rear ($120) Got my friend, who's a mechanic to install them for ($0) and i couldn't be happier. HAndle's great. Kept the factory shocks, perfect, not sure exactly to what degree they'd differ to the forte... mines an AUII XR8.

Either way, dont pay more than around $120 -$130 for either pairs and you can get out of it for $250. I got mine from Repco.

Is 30mm enough? What is the average people lower AU1's? by?

Well i know mine went down "about" 55mm at the rear and 45mm or so at the front. My opinion is 30mm won't quite satisfy your desire!

This is with it lowered to those heights (approximately as i didn't measure before and after) I know if it was much higher id want it lowered again. Im still thinking of going to SSL in the front.

And there's "Ultra Low" aswell... these are names i believe just for the King Spring Range.

I was sceptical, but am really happy with their performance...

For the record you can also get Fulcrum springs. Exactly the same as Kings springs.

By exactly I mean EXACTLY.. they come out of the same manufactures and, when you take the Fulcrum springs out of the box they are yellow and have a "Kings Springs" stamp on them..

Sweet... didn't know that as i only delt with SL and SSL, thinking there was then another one "UL"

AU's sit natrually "bum high" so but putting the lower springs on the back the Car sits flat.

i have king spring SL in front with standard shockers and same in rear but i cut bout 1.5 coils off the rear ones, sits perfectly even but im booked in tomorrow at Tyrepower to have their brand of springs (Lovell) put in the front,its costing me $210 with wheel allignment but i already have a camber castor kit for alligning. sits just level with the tyres now,(18" by 8" rims") but not low enough for me. Just gonna cut the back ones again till i can afford shortened shockers and ill do the rear properly then.

Please, if you must cut springs, dont say it on here.
There are all sorts of arguments for and against but, in the end, it is illegal and your insurance is now void if they find out.

to put it basically it is a kit that allows u more room when adjusting the allignment of your front wheels, i put king springs in my car myself but didnt adjust the allignment so the inside of both my front tyres scrubbed out partially,havening a camber and castor kit allows me to adjust the angle that the tyres run on the road, not sure of the cost for it now but is around $200-$250 installed. My car is an AU late series 1 sedan

if u gonna get them installed professionally they will tell you when they do the wheel allignment if it is necessary. If ur gonna install them yourself the only way to find out i think is to wait till your tyres start to scrub out, then you'll know if u need one or not

no offence....but if your going to use king springs dont bother with SL just go SSL or else you will want to lower it more later.
remeber these words oh and dont forget camber kit on the front end at least.
may as well rotate your tyres balance your wheels and wheel alignment while your getting them fitted mate.
Suspension city provost st nth melb $220 a whole set of SSL kings they also fit however u may have preffered mechanic but dont pay more then $150 for fittment & $50 for wheel alignment etc & $250 for the pedders camber kit fitted if u choose for this

Do you have to get shocks as well when getting the springs as mine are still in really good condition, and I dont want to just ditch them if I dont have to.

Casper said the shocks will die at around 10,000km anyway so i guess so....I know sucks! More moeny lol and u also have to kit a camber kit!

I believe an AUI you do need a camber kit. However on AUII and after, i believe they increased the amount of adjustment you have for camber and therefore i didn't need a camber kit when i got my alignment done... so they said at K-Mart Tyre and Auto. Either way, my tires dont scrub out, i dont have a camber kit.
