Default AU3 Chaser's Dyno Run

Hey All! I was too poor to attend the Show 'n' Shine in VIC today so I spent $40 on a dyno run.

This is the result with standard intake and filter, no extractors, no exhaust, and I havn't cracked the engine yet:

Hey. Great response guys. Just to prove that I'm not pulling ur legs, here's some pics (external link to my site) to show that what I'm claiming is true.

Carefull, they are 3.2M pixel images (600kb each):

There was also a video camera at the dyno runthat got everyone too. Hoping that will be up on Fordmods soon (there was a 488Kw SS Ute - F***** awsome!)

Standard Exhaust Manifold
Engine Bay
Stanard Snorkle
Exhaust 1
Exhaust 2
Dyno Slip

CBF'd taking a pic of the repco air filter, but you get the pic.... I may have to do some mods like zorst and extractirs now....

Don't know what the cops did with it b4 I had it, but I always knew it was special!

Sounds a bit high as I could only manage 125.2rwk out of a AU VCT mtr fitted with Ph4499 extractors, exhaust & intake pipe at a dyno day at Hallam in Feb this year & no 6 cyl E or A series hit the 120rwk+ with a stock mtr with no performace add ons.

So what you're saying then jonbays is that unless you're comparing mod after mod on the same dyno, then it's just a few futile numbers?

And dyno to dyno numbers can hardly be trusted?

If this is the case, how do we get an accurate measure of power output? :

Yeah, but buickman,

take a look at the power curve, ur's is total different from my curve.

We had all sorts of cars from 45Kw Daewoo's to 290Kw XR6T's to 488Kw SS Ute's.

Hell, mine was still making power at 170Kph (just) until the fuel cutout kicked in...

Must be bleeding obvious to all that a 157fwkw engine as CLAIMED from the factory isn't going to put out 157rwkw is it!

depending on the drivetrain you can expect to lose somewhere between 50-60kw.

Now i have heard from all and sundry bout their phreak engines bla bla bla but life is tough truth is dynos lie.

Not calling you out on this mate I know its a dinkum dyno graph.

Yeah, true. I was the ONLY AU that was there today. There were a few EA's, EB, ED, EF (150Kw w/ stage 5 cam), and some BA's, but I was the only AU there to represent... lol.

agree'd. There is no way that you would get even close to that on some dynos and I know of at least one that would see you into the 130's no doubt :

Take it to the 1/4, use the blacktop dyno, it will never over estimate.

OK so how did you go compared to the EF and BA now same dyno same day you will start to see a pattern of how much the dyno is correcting the figures for you.

For eaxample I ran a dyno day only got 136rwkw wasn't shocked but i had run 142rwkw before. Then another member runs his stock AUII XR8 200fwkw auto ute and it runs 139rwkw. you see the pattern. On the day i ran 142 i saw a dev5 manual car run 173rwkw. SO I can guesstimate that my 157fwkw car is getting near enough to 195fwkw these days. Also the drag timeslips sort of confirm this too you look at the terminal speeds mostly as auto and manual have very different launches but the TS doesn't change tooo much.

Yeah, Wouldn't mind putting it on the track seeing alot of the money went into the suspension, and not just lowering either...

Compared to the EF - he got 150Kw with dev 5 cam, EA got 126 with extracotrs, chip and exhaust, Magna VRX got 120 with chip, extractors, exhaust, intake and a new pink paint job...

Can I see some other dyno run sheets? I wanna compare the power curve.

Mate I reckon your dyno run was alright.I also think that a stint down the 1/4 will show that those figures are pretty spot on. If a dev 5 only put out only 150rwkws then I would hardly call this dyno a generous one.

Without comparing anyone elses car on the same dyno on the same day, it's hard to comment for or against. 1/4 probably wouldn't go so well without the hi stallie....

Meh, either way, I'm happy w/ the power curve, pretty clean, not bumpy...

nice run

I don't know why people are comparing your car to a stock one though, wouldn't an ex-chaser be a fair bit more powerful?

I doubt the car was an ex-chaser. It's only a 6. Most HWP cars and "chasers" are actually at least Xr6s, but usually XR8s and SS commodores. I'd say it's an ex-general duties police car (doesn't sound quite so "romantic" as ex-chaser though). Good power output though on Jakes dyno. My XR8 put out 148 on Jake's, but only 142 on Peter Pulford's, so even if yours is 120 (on Pulford's), and not 126, it's still a solid number, and well worth bragging rights.

Anyway, the police do nothing additional to the cars these days, apart from the options that come from Ford, such as interior light mod, and looms for lights, radio etc. No chip, no edit, no nothing. You'd be even lucky to get sports suspension and an LSD in a GD car. The biggest physical mod they do to the cars is remove the rear spoiler if the car is in the close protection squad.

I started reading through that and thought "Not an ex-chaser?" Your crazy! Get off the road! But I kept reading, and I agree, it more then likley is a duties car. Rear spoiler is gone (as its a Futura). It definatly has the suspension package and LSD, but I think it stops there.

Anyways, I would love to now do a dyno run against some other AU's. I've become a dyno junike in less then half a weekend.... OMG.... I've.....become.... CASPER!!!!! lol. JK

I look at dyno numbers and laugh now.. they really are all over the place. They are also "fake" due to other factors making a bigger difference. Example.

2 cars. Both identical except one has a 3000stall and 3.9 diff, the other has a 2000 stall and 3.23 diff.

In all other aspects they are identical. Same weigth, same tyres, same fuel, same dyno numbers and curve from the same dyno minutes apart.

This case is a prime example of a dyno being useless. The car with the stall and diff is going to flog the other one but a good couple car lengths in reality.. but the dyno cant see it, it only sees them as the same.

(Of course, to be the same power they are actually different but you get the idea)
