I haven't been to the forum for a quite a while now. I'm still driving my build date Nov 2007 Mondeo Zetec. I like this car so much I just don't want to part with it. Definitely the best car I've owned in over 50 years of driving and nearly as many cars.
Anyway, today I went out the front and I've got my first flat tyre in many, many years. I prayed that the mechanics had put the wheel lock nut back in at the last service. No problems, the lock nut was there and the nuts weren't too hard to loosen. I can see at least three nail-like pieces of metal in various parts of the tyre. Now to the point of this point: what is this part that was in spare wheel compartment alongside the jack and wheel brace? It's not mentioned in that poor photocopy-quality excuse for a manual that new Mondeo owners were given in 2008 when I bought the car.

Tow eye, screws into front or rear of car so it can be dragged without damaging the car

You will probably never need it, but I got stuck in a wet paddock when I had the MA and we could not figure out where to connect the tow rope ...

Tow eye can be used with rope to stabilise front of pipes etc on roof rack. Wagon will fit 6m lengths.

It's LH thread. There's also a little wire tool with a finger hole to open the cover.

Looking at the thing, I certainly wouldn't be relying on it as a safe recovery point fitting, especially for use with a snatch strap.

Its not a point to use snatch straps or any shock loading it is designed to be pulled by a winch. Have seen people pull bumpers off cars due the it tearing out welds on some models due to the above.

The tow eye also screws into the wheel brace to act as an extension/knob.
The user manual says it is to be used for towing but not with a rigid tow bar, and the obvious fact that too much tension could damage either vehicle. |

It should be used to drag the car on to a tilt tray tow truck, you remove the bar cover cap and it screws into the body normally the bar reo. That is what they were desigened for.
