Default No Accessories and no start

I have an EB II 1993 and at the moment when I turn the ignition there are no
accessories and the engine will not start. When the ignition is in the on
position there are no warning lights.

At any position the smart lock light flashes the standard 1.1 seconds.

My theory is that there is an issue with the ignition system or the actual
mechanism.. At the moment I am attempting the key on for 30 minutes to see
if that provides a solution, however I do not feel confident about this.

I have checked all fuses and relays and they seem to be fine, exempt the
accessory relay as I have not been able to get to it.

I would be grateful for any input to this matter.

Did it happen overnight?
What is the connection like at the battery terminals?
What condition is the battery in?

The battery is about 3 months old, the old battery well over 4 years old began to corod and leak, eventually would not hold any charge.

Ther terminals and connections were cleaned when I replaced the battery.

I should add that the horn, hazards, interior lights, head lights, park lamps, boot release, remote locking etc all work.

Check your relays in the engine bay and then check your car battery.Actually check the battery first.

battery fine, relays around the battery fine, fusable links fine.

The key on bizo made no diff, the smart lock light still flashing.

I also just had the key in the ignition turned to the on position and was able to use the remote to open and close the dorrs, which sugests to me that the ignition is not communicating with the smart lock system

you should try and jump start the car ( use surge protector cables ). if this works then you have a battery problem. this is a good place to start. batteries have a mind of there own - even new ones! '67 is right about terminals too. even a slight bit of corrosion or loose terminal can cause trouble.

How will jump starting the car solve the issue of none of the accessories working?

Or getting the smart lock system to turn off when the ignition is turned to the on position?

It sounds like something has blown. Have you checked for power at the fusebox? Have you checked that a fusible link hasn't blown? These are usually located close to the battery... I'm not sure about the EB.

The fuseable links are fine, but i haven't checked for power at the fuse box, I will give that a go.

If by 'no accessories' you mean the radio doesn't come on, fan doesn't come on... how about checking the actual ignition switch? Just to make sure that when you turn the key the circuit is enabled?

Thats right, no fan, indicators, radio, windows.

I just tested the fuse box, the fuse for the accesspry relay has power when the ignition is in the accessory position.

How do I check that when I turn the key the circuit is enabled?

It has just come to mind that when the fault orginated the set of keys being used had a faultly/broken/flat battery keypad.

All of the attempts since have been with a fully functional keypad

check the power to the solenoid, on the starter motor. I don't know if the starter motor is actually turning over... if you turn the key and the starter turns... the ignition switch is working. If the motor is turning over, but not igniting, you might have a computer problem. The workshop manual can give you the procedures for checking the ECU, to see if that's the problem.

Actually, the workshop manual would help here, to show what wires are for what, so you can check the operation of the ignition switch.

1. The smartlock is always armed no matter what position the ignition is in.
2. As the smartock is always armed I do not believe that the started would not turnover.
3. The accessories do not work, therefore the starter would not affect the radio or power windows.
4. Although I feel as though i am getting no where, your thoughts and opions are helpful, keep them coming.

Without an explanation of how the Smartlock works, I can't tell you if it has sensors that may have failed, which may have disabled other functions of the car.

I will always look to the mechanical side first, two bits rubbing together for too long is not good!

If the ignition key is not turning off the smartlock, it's a locksmith's job.

Otherwise... an autoelec? maybe something wrong with the smartlock circuit, or something it depends on.

But... if turning the key doesn't do anything, does that mean that the key is turning broken bits, and thus doing nothing?

Just because power is on one point of the relay ,it doesnt mean its working.Do you hear a clicking sound of the relays?

I have located the problem. There was a loose wire on the ignition switch, after playing around i located the exact one and now all is good.
