Default Preparing Boot lip spoiler and installing it.

Hey guys, i just bought a lip spoiler.
Its black in colour and has lots of scratches in it so its off to get repainted. It will be cheaper if i prepare the spoiler and then send it off to be painted. I was wondering how u prepare the spoiler? Sand it back with sandpaper? WHat sorta sandpaper??... stuff like that..

In regards to installing the thing, I notice it has a couple of screws, so i need to drill the boot itself..
Has anyone done this? can you give me a few pointers.. thanks

Unless the paint is cracked, it's easiest to sand it back a little, rather than right back to rubber (as it will then have to be re-primed). Just use some wet-and-dry sandpaper, if the scratches are deep, use some 400 or so and then finish it with some 800. If the scrathces are really fine, then just use the 800.

As for drilling the boot, line the spoiler up in the right spot, and mark where you need to drill. Check where the holes are going to be so that they aren't going to hit something on the other side (when they go through). If they are, put some hose or some kind of spacer on the drill bit to stop it from going through too far. You may find it easier if you drill a small hole or use a centre punch first to stop the drill from moving around, too.

Take the clear cloat off, DON'T sand it back to rubber.

nothing wrong with taking it back to rubber if it needs it, aslong as u prime it properly :o

Yeah but it's a bitch! I'm yet to find a spray painter who would do it.

I sanded mine back not to rubber though. Sprayed it in high fill and rubbed it back. Now time for a primer coat and then a couple a coats of Pearl Green 2pac and the a clear coat and done!
