Its not public roads, its a drag strip, Meremere I think.

It is a real good ad though, saw it during Clipsal, probably is thats the only time I've seen it.

Better than our own ads I reckon......not too bad

Had a quick look around the Ford NZ site, cant get over the prices though, they seem very expensive compared to here........and they dont appear to have the full model range in most of the cars.

Only 1 model Fiesta, the 5 door, in manual form: $22,490, (no Zetec or XR4 in NZ)

Focus 5 door hatch, base model (like our CL) in manual: $31,990 (No XR5 in NZ)

Falcon XT Sedan, (base model): $43,290

Falcon XR8 Sedan, manual or auto: $57,390

Around 8gs more expensive there, even after exchange rate, pretty weird considering NZ is fairly easy with cheap grey imports from Japan

Ford NZ is going to the dogs, they used to have a great & varied model line up but it has been cut back over the last couple of years.
Used to have 3 Fiesta variants, 8 Mondeo models including the ST220, one good thing is we get a properly built Focus.

Great ad, it's at the Champion Dragway Meremere.

You should watch American/Canadian TV car ads, I think its mandatory to
do a handbrake turn or burnout in the ad.Everything from minivans to Cavaliers to Dodge trucks are ripping it up on the streets, tho there is small print down the bottom of the screen stating "filmed under controlled conditions on a closed course"
I wish we had cool ads here but the pedestrian counsel has to much power it seems.

Isn't that great....

Just talking with a colleague here at work and we felt the Oz version should be with green and gold(yellow) cars obviously with Glen McGrath getting out of a Fiesta and Ponting getting out of an F250 at the end. For a bit of humour as well.

Best thing about the ad is they show all of the cars in the range. I'll bet many Australians (non ford fans) don't realise how many cars are actually in the range eh.

Well done Ford NZ, that put a smile on my face this morning.

Jim.

Great ad, Harold Scruby is a joke. The pedestrian council is a joke. We pay exhorbitant prices to put our vehicles on the road, get butt fugged paying for rego and petrol, and then some jackass with a massive ego inversely proportional to his genitalia gets to determine what we are and aren't allowed to do on the patchwork quilt that is our roads. This, combined with the fact that cash strapped state governments who p1ss their money away on the bloated public service instead of road maintenance, means that instead of repairing the roads, they just lower the speed limits. Unbelievable. Add to this the fact that these low life bastards then use money that could be spent on roads on overseas junkets to see how other roads work better than ours and you can see why people are irked by the jerk.

The main reason I moved to Australia in the early 80's....Aust V8's were much cheaper in OZ than in NZ and you could actually afford to run them because fuel was (and still is) cheaper in Australia than it was in NZ.

My first car after moving to Sydney in 1985 was a 7 year old XC Fairmont GXL 351 picked up for $4,500 in mint condition privately from an old bloke living in Coogee. The same car in 1985 in either Wellington or Auckland (if you could get one) would have set you back NZ $12,000 according to my dear old Dad who checked out the papers after I bought it.

Looking at your post makes me relive those shocking memories and it seems thinks haven't changed much.
