Default Why the hell isnt Ford pushing the LPG option?

With petrol at $1.40 a litre and LPG nearly a 3rd of the cost, ive just realised my EL is just as cheap to run as a Toyota Prius.

Ford could sell a load of Falcons by heavily advertising LPG and its advantages. Drop the price of the option to $500, offer it on XT, Futura, Fairmont and Ghia, Territory. Advertise that they are cheaper to run than a Prius, plus more environmentally friendly (remember LPG is a by-product of the petrolium industry)

Watch them walk out the door.

Or am I missing something? Do Ford not have the supply of parts available to sell them in big numbers?

The petrol game is a unique one. There is alot more that the general public don't see and the manufactures are involved too.
One reason it's not a cheap option is because you get it back at the pump and they don't want their petrol vehicles to stop selling, also if manufactures were to sell more that 50% of their cars as dedicated LPG, the price of LPG will double.

Now i'm sure you boy have better stories than this but i remember running down to the servo because fuel was .45c/l and that was an absolute bargain! oooo the good old days when owning a V8 didnt mean you had to sell one of the kids.......
I guess the LPG opion with Ford is the main reason why they have increased fleet sales??

My guess would be that at the moment Ford and every other LPG related company have more orders than they know what to do with so why would they be spending more money on advertising? Secondly if they spend a squillion dollars on ramping up production and ordering parts etc etc and the price of petrol goes back to around $1.15 p/l then they will be caught with excess stock etc because thirdly people are still not completly sold or like LPG.

Probably the same reason they have not made a deisel engine - cost to much. Plus their compeditors are using much more superior systems (holden is using sequential vapour injection) and it would not look good for the brand if more people knew about that. Parts supply etc. could also be an issue.

As long as you are a city boy/girl LPG will be ok.

Remember most of Australia is NOT part of inner Briscanmelbney and LPG is a bit rare in the bush.

But most of the population is.

I was fine the other week when I was travelling around northern NSW in the ute ... I just made sure I knew where I could fill up ... had to do a little research on the net before the drive up there ... but I was fine.

But if in the country ... duel fuel is the better option though as you have a backup when needed.

We have an E-gas BF ute at work at the moment. took it for a long drive today - its a brilliant car, comfortable, more than enough power ect, not sure why the Ford don't advertise the fact.

Both. Turbo petrol will be here first. Diesel is planned down the line (not as a performance version like the Turbo Petrol - but as an alternative to the standard petrol engine)

^^ What he said. If I had the power to close threads I would close this one. The LPG rort is too good and people should just keep buying petrol. That way we keep driving on the cheap.

I normally agree with what you have to say BUT, I have driven dedicated LPG cars throughout western NSW and never had any trouble (One did have the 115 litre tank)

Damn straight, part on me condemns myself for promoting LPG where prossible, the less people who use it, the more I get.

As with the country thing, you get it just about anywhere, in fact there is even a trip planner on the LPG industry website, i was planning a trip recently and worked out that i would have no problems travelling from Gosford to Adelaide (via Broken Hill or mildura for that matter). The stuff is available almost as well as 95 octane, though i would like your chances in Lightning Ridge , but thats what dual fuel is for.
