Whats going with fuel prices?
Barrel prices of crude are apparently below $45 a barrel but the pump prices have spiked. Should'nt we be seeing prices around the $1.00 per litre mark. |

I filled up late last night and Diesel was 119.9 and ULP was 129.9.
It is what it is. If it is 50c or $3 per litre I will still drive my car just as I do always.

You have to feel for the people in Adelaide.
We've just come back from a week in the Barossa (40mins out of Adel) and petrol there is about 10cpl cheaper than in the city !! Obviously the dollar has a different value in the city

Oil Companies and Banks work the same way with Fuel Prices and Interest Rates.
Prices / Interest goes down means takes weeks to pass on the savings. Prices / Interest goes up means price goes up immediately. If only you could go put $60.00 in your car and tell the attendant that you will pay him $40.00 now and the other $20.00 in two weeks when your pay comes in.

1: Our dollar hasn't changed that much in the past month or so.
2: Oil has slumped faster than the dollar has gone down in value. 3: The price of fuel has risen...in my area...maybe twenty cents in that time. Makes perfect sense. The dollar value? Well, if oil is going down, and our dollar is going down...shouldn't the petrol price be pretty much stable? Everyone from oil companies to service stations are fleecing us (yes they bloody are...don't start with "Oh but we're poor") and keep on trying to make us believe there's a direct and instant pipeline from the refinery to the bowser so they raise their prices literally seconds after the oil price goes up, but keep it up for months after the price of oil drops...if the input costs of the raw materials cost less, and you're not passing that on to the consumer...you're price gouging, simple as that. Not one of the excuses they use make sense if you spend more than a seconds thought on them. The ACCC is a toothless tiger that makes a bit of a rumble now and then but doesn't actually do anything to help us. Idiots still think that "boycotting fuel on next wednesday" or something will change things. And they know we just have to grin and bear it and pay whatever they charge...they bloody know... |

You have a better chance of explaining the meaning of Life, the Universe and Everything, over how the hell the fuel pricing system actually works.

Have a look guys. Prices are displayed daily straight from the terminal gate. Buy your own tanker and get some.

De Java Vu GT, that would mean my local servo is putting 18 cpl on top of the gate price, I wonder how much a litre it costs to have it transported to the servo???

Oddly enough it's still 137.9 here in Alice. Hasn't changed in a couple of months.
I don't want to jinx it, but usually we're a good 30-40c/L above metro prices.

The only way to counteract petroleum companies from gouging us is to setup your car to run on an alternate source of fuel other than LPG. The problem is, those who has designed such means get either bought out, or conveniently disappear. The ACCC and govco are on the payroll so don't expect them to come to your aid.

If you've got an old school IDI diesel you can run them on all sorts of home made fuels, some people have had a lot of success with the Detroit Diesel 6.2/6.5L V8s running all sorts of fuels without negative consequences.
Wouldn't dare try it on a common rail DI engine though lol. |

for common rail the only other fuel would be heating oil or jet A fuel..
older diesels fuels heating oil, kero, jet A, canola, vegetable, jet B, palm oil, atf...

The price of lettuce is like petrol too. One week $1, the next $3.99, the next $1.50, the next $1.99.

I imagine they figure out what the prices are going to be via one of those big game show wheels, like wheel of fortune, you know the big wheel you spin with the little thing at the top which drags along the pegs and then comes to a stop indicating something?
SPIN THE WHEEL!!!! The price today of fuel is going to be $2.79/L even though oil is $60/barrel. We will deflect questioning by blaming Singapore and homeless people. |

Even LPG is rising again.
Apparently the refineries are on strike and LPG shortages are happening. Some LPG is being transported from NSW to make up the difference. This is why LPG is now 60c p/ltr again! |

60c = 52c, the added 8c is the thieving politicians trying to get back money lost on lpg rebate. No free lunch...

I just read if I got it right, Chevron sold their Australian stake in Caltex, dunno what effect that will have, it appears shares where up in price and it was purely a good time to make a pack of dollars by selling at this time.

I kept my docket from February where I paid $68 for 71 litres of petrol. Just something to look back on in years to come and can prove it actually did happen...
