Question 2008 Mondeo MA TDCI. Timing Belt or Chain?

Hi All.

We have just brought a used 2008 Mondeo MA TDCI ( loving it!!) and my hubby is wondering if they have a timing belt or chain, and if it is a belt, when is it due for changing.

Thanks

Don't hold me to this as I haven't confirmed but from memory I think the service manual for my MA states 10 years or 240,000K. Interestingly however, I've come across this quote on the UK ford forums:

"If you have an automatic built before 06/2008 its 100.000km intervaller."

Full thread here:

General consensus is that it's a belt.

Thanks for that. I actually just found it in the manual, the pages had stuck together. Wondered why it wasnt in there.
It says 240k in ours too.
Thanks again.

I had a quick look around before buying and could have sworn that it was a chain. I will have to re investigate when I get home...

Son has 2008 MA Mondeo TDCI, I have just replaced timing belt , idler and tensioner on it at 240,000K. Ford quoted $1800, did job using Motorcraft parts for $480 including service.

Hi all,

Confusion reigns!!

The 2.0 litre diesel engine has both a belt and a chain.

The belt drives the exhaust camshaft (from the crankshaft) and from there the chain drives the inlet camshaft.

The MA warranty and service guide document calls for a belt change at 10 years or 240,000 km, whichever occurs first. It makes no comment about the chain between the two camshafts.

In the link the contributors managed to get themselves confused, because some were talking km and others miles without specifying which (and they might have been quoting figures for different engines as well).

Hope this helps.

Cheers

+1 allend

both belt and chain, I believe the chain is regarded to the life of the vehicle. Or until it poses a problem I guess.
