Just curious..
Anyone know the power to weight ratios of the LR and the LS I know the LS is a lil bit more powerful but also heavier.. I had a bit of a go against Pieoter in his LS sedan after the go karts.. and we were pretty much neck and neck...

so i had a look in a motor mag..
the LS zetec is 107kw and weighs 1283kg making it 11.99 kg/kw the LR zetec is 96kw and weighs 1175kg making it 12.39 kg/kw Extremely similar.. LRs are better tho :P

Good thread! So the next question is, how much extra power do you need to generate in an LR to equal an LS?
My maths says that 1175 kg divided by 98kW =11.99 kW/kg So you only need 2 extra kilowatts from an LR to match the LS Focus. And according to some on this forum, window tinting and a new gear knob will gain at leats 3kW!!

Window tinting and a new gear knob!
Hell what about the Neons! Those things are like NOS! Pretty interesting to see the two so closely matched. So basically if you fold your rear view mirrors in you should win the drag. |

Simon I didn't launch the car. Thats pretty much explain why it was "neck and neck" eve though I wouldn't call a car length neck and neck.

I think BlackLS has taken his to the Drags up here at Eastern Creek. It's mentioned in another Thread.
Simon, what about us poor people with the 85kw Engine in the LR. It's not even worth calculating!.

16.2. First run ever. Fairly crap 2.4 or somwthing 60footer so it wasn't the best launches. Interesting fact it ran 85mph, which on a well driven car with a good launch could get you in to a 15.9
The other 2 runs were 16.5, because of underbonnet temps made the intake HOT as! |

Does anyone know what the comparative torque figures are? And what the gear ratios are side to side?

From page 3: http://ford.com.au/global/pdf/range/...ocus_specs.pdf
185Nm of torque @ 4500 rpm. with the 107kw at 6000 rpm. So between 4500 and 6000 rpm is where to be in a LS Focus. |

Vid of the run. Vid taken on my phone, sorry bout the qual
http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v6...wsidinside.flv I crossed the line just as I went into 4th(if you try to hold 3 it hits the rev limiter for about 2 seconds before crossing the line), but the S2000 next to me was still trying to convincinly beat me. Was about 3-4 car lengths ahead of me |

Had you done the drags before LS?
I've been out to Calder here to watch, but never raced. Am a little tempted.(Must admit though, I'd be embarrassed to stuff up in my little Focus amongst the heavy duty street cars)

Someone ran a LWB Econovan (niiice 20sec time slip). Also an old twin carb ka laser, and some other "slower" cars. Ultimatly the purpose is not to show off your car, its knowing what your car can do initially, then you can experiment with modifications or weight removal, as well as different launch techniques and see the difference it can make (can make it fun and edumucational) Anyone who is thinking about bringing your car to the strip i highly recommend it. First time is a surreal experience. (ps play a lot of Nitto1320 drag game, to learn the structure of lineing up the car at the strip etc) |

The Focus is probably on par to the sim due to the liniar power it has in the upper rev range, and its well spaced gearing. I wish they were offered with an LSD. Not even the xr5 has it. Mitch_LX and Zetec20, quit your shenanigans and take it to the track already. |
