MOTORISTS will have to deal with a new, fixed speed camera on the M1 but police have refused to confirm when it will become operational.
The bank of four speed cameras has been installed on the reverse side of the Smith St overpass at Gaven on the Gold Coast, recording the speed of every northbound car. Fines are not yet being issued but The Courier-Mail understands the cameras will go live next week. The cameras are identical to those further north on the M1, at Logan, where cameras on the reverse side of the Logan Motorway overpass have raised millions of dollars in revenue since going live in 2011. Those cameras nabbed 11,655 speeding motorists in their first 17 days of operation and boosted the number of speeding offences detected. Police statistics show fixed speed cameras in the South East District issued 10,351 tickets in 2010-11, compared to 131,829 in 2011-12, the year the Logan camera began operating. http://www.couriermail.com.au/news/q...-1226546781743

Yeah the missus noticed them when we headed down to the coast on Monday. I hadn't noticed them before hand. I'll have to remember they are there cause usually I go back home via Smith Street. I saw no warning signs for them though like they have down at the Loganholme ones.
