Default New Led's Wired Under Front Seats

G'day all, i have finally wired my blue LED's under the front seats in my FG XR6. Whilst i was out shopping the other day, i found a little store at the caboolture markets that sell LED's and stuff. I found a T10 plug that had wires out of it as apposed to lights and they slotted straight into the globe plugs for the front foot well lights. so it was a simple matter of wiring extra cable ect and runnig it to the under part of the front seats...

the gear i used:

30 LED strip (cut into 6 LED strips) One for each footwell and seats and a spare in case you break one of the strips. $29.95 from Jay car
3.5mtrs of low voltage positive and negative cable $.70 p.mtr
2 c T10 Power adaptors $5.60 ea
solder and heat shrink $2.50 apprx
some skin and blood from catching my hand under the passenger seat and hearing me curse with colourful language and jump up and down like an idiot????? PRICELESS!!!

the results are as shown:

So i then got creative and used the two T10 LED globes i had in the front foot well in the overhead lights. here is the result.... still not sure about it. let me know what you think??

so that is that so far... let me know your thoughts etc....

whilst a little ricey, the footwells look alright. However the overhead light is a rookie mistake. youll find seeing things quite hard at night, and constantly feel like your driving in a mobile shooting gallery. i had a blue LED left over from an old car which i put in the overhead dome light, it last nearly 2 days. good luck reading a melways, the roads disappear. haha.

With LED's I think this is the best place for them, like in the Mercedes.

If your mates are junkies they will be spewing with the blue lights, however it looks rather neat a little too bright for me, but still a nice job.

yeah I got them on mine the only problem is when you have passengers in the back with big feet they kick them and damage the pcb have had to repair both sides and scold passengers.

Yeh i thought of that one Stang65 and what i did was put the lights at an angle back under the seat and the cables ae zipped tied to the under seat so hopefully wont catch someones foot.

The one thing i did like is that i can dim the lights with the factory fitted dimmer, but at the moment, im enjoying the look. although, not sure on the legalities??? anyone have a thought as to how legal this is? especially the overhead light???

BTW, im leaving the driving lights the normal colour in case my iphone, navman, Ipod, computer, and the kitchen sink stop working, and i need to use a refedex (Metway). lol

I have done the main interior light blue but left the front map lights and rear passenger light white, that way it`s easier if you need to read something.

How do you mean at angle , can you explain more please mine were stuck on with doublesided tape but because they got kicked the tape isn`t as sticky.

You should change the front ones to a led bar that way will be more of an even spread inside of one sided with the one bulb

Do these lights only come on with the interior lights, or stay on all the time?

G'day GasOLane, they are connected to my interior light so come on when it is on. i reckon it would be a pain in the bum to have them on all the time. lol.

You should get some puddle lights running on the side of the doors - Really useful for me on many occasions - It re-enforces the "look before you leap" saying :-P

At the moment i have them stuck under the seat using double sided tape until i can position them right. then im going to put them there a little more permanantly.

just under the seat wear the cloth finishes, there is a small strip of metal running at an angle, it is perfect to put the lights becuase they are out of the way of feet and they cant be seen.

Im still working on the logistics to run 1-2 LED's in the doors to light up them up a little bit. Just for effect. thoughts anyone????

I have sussed it out the best way to mount them is under the seat there is a steel mesh that holds the seat cushion cable tie to that as it high enough not to get kicked and still be able to centre the light for good dispersion.

what globe did you use for your interior light coz i want to make that one blue... i tried the blue t10 globes in the map lights and took them straight out as you cant read anything and left them for spares for my foot wells

the main interior light is fitted with 2 x T10 LED globes you can get them from Jaycar (the same as the ones that go in the footwells). I find that it does not impede with reading ect. but i certainly wouldnt do the map lights, it would make it way too hard to see. lol

With the leds in the main lights, it makes the car have a blue tinge and looks awesome at night... (the pictures dont do it justice)....
