yeah well i'm still on buying a second car, now i'm looking at an eb v8 would it be under the NEW power to weight ratio thing? what are the penalties if caught driving with a v8 on p's?
i was thinking if it is over the p-w ratio if i just pull off all the v8 badges and try to cover up the v8 sign on the engine you recon the cops will know? or what are my options from here, was thinking of applying for some permit if they have one or something and pretend that the'company' needs me to drive this car etc... what youse recon?

Nope, you already have a licence, so you dont come under the new laws.

what are these new laws? as for power to weight dont think that an EB V8 is anything HiPo coz it clearly isnt. you had your license BEFORE these 'new laws' so you are exempt from them.

yeh i wouldnt think that the EB V8 would fail on the power to weight ratio - not exactly a power house...and slower than the XR6 of the time...

I think a cop would know if he a saw a V8 under the bonnet as opposed to a 6, I think they have to pass an eye exam before becoming a cop.

IIRC, new laws mean no Probationary driver is permitted to drive a vehicl with 8 cylinders or vehicles with forced induction of any kind.

yeah, u can drive basically anything V8 in the holden and ford camps, i think thats with the exception of like the BA GTP and HSV variety holdens.
They are all fairly heavy vehicles, its mainly the japanese such as SR20 turbo silvia that are now over the p/w ratio. |

no V8 or forced car for P platers at all under no circumstance - no "permit" to allow it either. law was bought in to try and kerb the road toll stupid, coz the idiots wont stop killing themselves - if you hit a pole in an XR8 at 100kph and you hit a pole in a kia at 100kph, i know what vehicle id rather be in............ |

In all honesty i wouldnt even bother trying. A cop that finds you with a V8 will not be impressed - if you tried to hide it, id say theyd be even more likely to throw the book at you. That, and as has been said, it'd be pretty bloody hard to fool anyone into thinking a V8 was an I6, let alone a cop.
Take into account insurance etc too - if you still think its worth it, you can send me a cheque for a new guitar as you must have more money than sense. :

Regardless, i would say a V8 with P plates is still not a good idea.
And yes, i am a P plater myself.

What INJECTED 250 is saying is true. A 122kW 5.0 VL V8 is illegal to drive on P's, but a 150kW 3.0 VL Turbo is fine. Go figure...

PC, yeah ive driven V8's on my P's too, but i wouldnt go and buy one (my main reason is that insurance would kill me).Dunno what VIC cops are lik towards P platers who drive 8's, but where i am, if you have an 8 (even if its your dads etc) and P plates, you can expect a LOT of attention from the HWP.
Driving a BA GT I had a HWP SS follow me for about 5ks. Couldnt figure out if he was admiring the car or waiting for me to stuff up!

well the ed is gonna be ripped to shreds and built up with every thing in it, i suppose the project will take the length of what steves one did so im taking precautions:P plus i'd love to work on the V8 after the ed is done, the wan will always be my dad's company car thus i have less freedom with it
