I have been listening to the wireless & as of 4:00pm 3 people have lost their lives & twenty injured. Everybody needs to be so careful in public places these days. More & more of these types of incidents are occurring with alarming regularity. Thoughts with the families and everybody affected by the atrocious act of violence by this coward.

The title does not convey the tragedy that has unfolded...

Hundreds of lives have been turned upside down by some maniac's decision.

Stringing him up is probably too quick and too good for him.

Police statement:

It is believed police were in pursuit of a vehicle in the CBD when the vehicle deliberately struck a number of pedestrians in the vicinity of Bourke and Queens Streets at approximately 1.30pm.

Police shot the man who was the sole occupant of the vehicle and he received bullet wounds.

He was taken into custody where he is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The incident is not terrorism related.

Police understand the incident is linked to a stabbing that took place in Windsor early this morning (20 January) involving parties known to one another.

Following this incident, it is alleged the same man took a woman, who is known to him, hostage in his car. She managed to escape from the car on the Bolte Bridge earlier today.

Three people have been confirmed deceased with more than 20 people injured.

The deceased are yet to be formally identified however police can confirm one of the deceased is a young child.

Police and emergency services remain on the scene and request that people avoid the area.

Police have blocked the Bourke Street between William Street and Swanston Streets including the Bourke Street Mall.

The Homicide Squad will be investigating with the assistance of the Major Collision Investigation Unit.

I just saw it on the news. Looking at the damage on the car you'd think they hit another car or a wall. Totally ****** up!

He was rammed by police at one point.

The pram was flung and the child in it was thrown a fair distance.
Have a number of work colleagues that work in that street. So i lot of eyewitness accounts of the events.

It came out on social media well before The Age and ABC started reporting anything from what i saw.

He's right, apparently the driver was charged a few days ago. Is well known to police and has a violent past.

That is completely nuts. Being deprived of any personal choice, or personal freedom, then getting limited personal choice and freedom, then doing something to lose all choice and freedom for life. A 1600kg can easily be used as a weapon. But seriously, I hope the testamonies of the families of the deceased and that of those injured land that man in solitary for life. That to me would be worse then the death penalty.

That would be the easy option. Imagine staring at the wall with no contact with others for 40 years. I would try and bash my head against the wall to end it. Getting the needle would be the easy way out.

Forget the needle.

Being hung, drawn and quartered is the only way to deal with "people" like this.

It seems strange but that is exactly the truth. Even hardcore criminals hate women and children killers. I hope the boys show him a long and good time.

Buried to the neck and stoned sounds good, I don't think it's social acceptable, but neither is that piece of scum. What has to be going through your head to do something like that with so much intent.

He was was seen fishtailing in the background of a live news report this morning which incidentally was the stabbing he was involved in. He was obviously iced off his head. His two facebook pages are public also for those interested.

These random violent crimes are becoming increasingly frequent across all parts of Melbourne and I feel ice has already changed the landscape of some areas around here.

Yes, I can't even comprehend such madness.

If the maniac that did this really was on bail, that is deeply concerning. It certainly wouldn't be the first time in recent history that somebody on bail has gone on a murdering spree (the Lindt cafe terrorist attack is probably the most relevant example that comes to my mind).

Something needs to be done about our legal system. At the moment it merely seems to act as a revolving door for serious criminals.

Knowing our pathetic legal system there is a real chance they will put him in a mental health facility and treat him like one of the victims.
