Default Stereo Upgrade/Headlights Problem

I have an AU wagon...replaced the single din radio/cassette with a double din radio/CD from same era (maybe an AU11...not sure...it's a darker grey)...All fine except when I turn on the headlights (either park or full) the display drops about 95%...(not quite off but too dark to see at night) and rear speakers (previously off) come on ....Seems like the wiring loom is different but I can't figure it out....Anyone have a similar experience ?

Yep its an AUII versus AUI wiring issue.

The unit you got is AUII they have darker interiors.

Ford changed the dash wiring loom for certain and I have come unstuck matching an AUI ecu wiring colour codes to an AUII myself.

I can't help but suggest lots of bedtime reading of AUI and AUII wiring diagrams will have it sorted out.
