Default Nissan Pulsar 5th gear

I young housemate has an old style (late 80's I think) nissan pulsar 5 speed manual. When he puts it in 5th and releases the clutch it keeps jumping back out.

Any ideas

.....5th gear was optional on those Pulsars. I don't think it has it.

....Its a Nissan prototype speed limiter..... speed limit is as fast as you can go in 4th gear!

....Are you sure its a 5 speed?

.….Its a Nissan prototype service indicator. No 5th - Time for a service !

I could go on.....

(ps - I'm taking the pi5s. The gear box bearings are shagged and allowing excesive freeplay within the box - the mis alingment of the gears pushes them apart in 5th) reco or 2nd hand box is the cure plus a driving lesson about not dumping the clutch and/or flat changing.....its fun in a little FWD but it costs.
