Late last week, rumours were circulating stating that FPV was set to be sold back to Ford, with the performance subsidiary slowly being phased out. Rumours also speculated the Ford takeover would result in fewer performance models in the range in the future, with just a GT, an XR8, and an F6.

Official word has now confirmed these rumours are not true. Bryan Mears, managing director of Ford Performance Vehicles (FPV) and Prodrive, has told us that it is “business as usual for FPV”. He said,


“Rumours circulating, regarding Prodrive selling its shares in FPV to Ford are incorrect. It is business as usual for FPV.”

Part of the rumours were spiked after dealers were recently sent a notification asking them to bring all FPV orders forward. Although many assumed the request was due to the possible Ford takeover of FPV, FPV simply asked this so that it could work on the release of a new model. Mears said,


“We are currently working on new product due for release later this year.”

The new model is being labelled as the ‘Panther’, based on the current GT. It’s set to feature a wider tyre and wheel package and revised suspension and handling components, almost like a modern-day equivalent of the old GTHO, and similar to the FPV GT Concept Black revealed at the 2011 Australian Interionational Motor Show (pictured below).



As for the engine, Mears said that it will feature “a version of the supercharged Miami engine”, which suggests the 335kW power rating of the 5.0-litre supercharged V8 might be tweaked somewhat for the new model.

Mears said more details of the exciting new model will be announced shortly. We’ll certainly keep a lookout for more on this and keep you updated.

Hopefully this puts all the speculation to rest.

Considering there is an interview with Bryan Mears in the lastest AMC mag, none of the speculation made any sense, as in why would he agree to do an interview regarding FPV if it was to be sold back to Ford.

My comment...

I think it has wider wheels...(different to the front)

Bumper is different aswell, you can see the "black edition" vents pressed up against the bra...

I got pretty much shot down...

But now there is news of a new FPV, with wider wheels, and possibly a new bumper...

My guess is, this was the car that was testing the custom rear LCA's that were modified to allow wider rims...

In light of this news thats come to light,
I feel there should be a few apology's given to those that tried to "steady the ship" in amongst all the hustle of the wilder beast that seem to take much joy in stating the END for FPV !!!
You people know who you are, and you no doubt definitely know the people you shot down in flames or dismissed their input without clarification or given due time to prove their stand.
Eat some humble pie for once, and admit that you're not always necessarily right all the time

its a great article which gives us some good news to cheer about.

Hey.....I'm hoping as much anyone on here that it all goes well for FPV....just sayin that there isn't much in that statement from FPV about anything long term. Of course they will come out and state business as usual..... What else would they say with a limited edition in the works and on the way.

Do you also believe everything Julia Gillard shoves down your throat..Because she made an statement about business as usual......carbon tax.....yep....business as usual......

At this point, 500 views for this thread and only 21 comments (5 of which have been mine). I guess the know-it-alls can't argue with the heads of state at FPV.

here we are supposedly faithful Ford fans, and we get negative comments, even when things arnt spirling inwards as some (such as the person who gave thanks to this comment) would have us believe

Lets get rid of the negativity and show some positive thoughts and actions to FPV and Ford

Come on up here in QLD we just had the clearest skies you have ever seen. The mornings are 7 degrees max 21, that carbon tax is already working miracles.
Without trying to be too negative, the M/D is never going to give anything but business as usual no matter what the company. To do so would be suicidal not only for his company, but possibly his career.

We've spent well over 140k supporting FPV ....i've voted with my wallet not with the keyboard.....

My comments are not intended to be dismissive or divisive....purely observational. So....to some of the keyboard specialists on here....You wanna save FPV .....go and buy one....put up or $:@; up.....simple

and if you cant afford one, like many, then spread the word, if ford wont advertise the suckers we can...

thers more to support than buying the product. (although it is the most helpful of course)
