Post 2011/12/13 mc lx pwrshift tdci

Im looking at purchasing a MC LX PWRSHIFT TDCI from an auction yard in Melbourne later this week and want to know the things to check out for.

A little info on the car:

- 145 000 km ex-company car
- immaculate condition
- needs front tyres
- test drove it today
- full service book from Essendon Ford on time every time

I have heard the services cost a lot and there are some problems with the timing belts?

Any advice and help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not aware of any issue with timing belt, service interval is 200000km.

Thanks for the reminder to ring and book mechanic to service my girl this week.

How easy is it for him to tell if Timing Chain has been replaced? Cars service books go to 189,000 and next is the dealers shonky sticker saying 225,000km service due.

Could it be worth contacting the Ford dealer that handled the car earlier and see if they could be of assistance?

That was Bendigo Ford and by today's condition of the car they had done a fantastic job to say the least.

Only repair in over 12 months was a replacement headlight bulb.

I'd be checking with the Ford dealer. They should have a record of timing belt change if it was done at 186000km.

If there were no record of it being done I'd get it it done very soon.

Inspecting the belt would involve removing the upper timing belt cover. My guess is it would not be very conclusive . . . consult the experts?

Agreed! Shall attempt contact with the dealer tomorrow.

Mechanic has my VIN number and will grab parts and probably do the service on Friday.

Will report back.

Dealer called me back to say Timing Chain does not need replacing, brakes, tires and transmission service done at the 180K service. (Now 224K)

So just a normal service tomorrow afternoon and according to Ford dealer the girl should do well on the long haul in September.

AFAIK your car doesn't have a timing chain, it has a belt and if it's not replaced at 200000km you run an expensive risk. The only chain is between the inlet and exhaust camshafts. Check the manual, or ask your dealer when it is due, my guess they'll say 195000, that's what my dealer says, though the user service guide says 200000, I guess they try to time it with oil changes.

The 2.3 petrol has a chain and the diesel definitely a belt. I'd suggest that you find a dealer who has some basic knowledge of the Mondeo.

Doh!

Dementia rules. I thought it strange when he said what you quoted but being surprised by his quick response to my query I had mistaken CHAIN for BELT.

Will call them back this morning. Service now being done at 9am so only 45 minutes to wake up and get there.

Stand by.

you have the 2.0L TDCI yeah?

it has both belt and chain, timing belt to drive the inlet cam and a chain linked to both cams obviously to drive the exhaust cam. As per Rondeo's link. It's the belt that still needs changing not the chain section.

Yeah I realised that after hanging up to Bendigo Ford's phone call. (As I write 50 times, "BELT not chain)

Anyway rang them from mechanics this morning and he returned my call within minutes. (Thanks Bendigo Ford)

He confirmed the belt was changed at the 185K service along with a transmission service. Also that their records showed 5.5ltrs oil being billed for. BUGGER! We had 5ltrs but my mechanic ducked out and bought another 5ltrs from Ford.

The service went well and the only fault found was a small oil (Engine) leak from the engine near the transmission.

The injectors were clean and showed no leakage, brake fluid was checked for water and no problems. Finally he plugged in the computer and all checked out okay.

Service $130
2x5 Ltrs oil + Oil Filter $100
Total all up $230

I can highly recommend this guy and he is in Noble Park, Vic or will come to you. Second time I have used him. First time on my Focus in a local carpark (Saved towing fees) when circlip came off front left driveshaft making car undrivable.

Let me know and I will post his details if interested. He specialises in European cars and diesels. If you speak Polish ask for a discount. I don't but he looked after me. Less than half of Ford's costs.

Yeah, the diesel needs 5.5 l of oil, which is a pain when buying the oil. I bought an extra 1 l pack last time.
