Default Best Windscreen Washer Additive to Use

Hi All. Whats the best windscreen washer additive to use. I figure something that doesn't cause rust or paint damage would good . I read something years ago that washer additive causes rust around the windscreen!!. Any thoughts.

Cheers

I've used Rainex for a while, its excellent and you don't need wipers as long as your over about 80kph, the wind just blows the water off. I don't know about rust though, might be worth checking the ingredients.

Had an uncle who always swore by a teaspoonful of metho in a full washer bottle.
I usually just use a squirt of Windex.

It probably varies with location and weather. Over here it is mostly about cleaning the dust from the windows, so products designed to help repel water are not as effective.

I use whatever i can get in the washer bottle, the right % is the most important part

In saying that i only use fluids designed for use there, not dishwashing liquid

Rainex applied on the windscreen is brilliant and helps reduce the need to use the washer fluid

In my henry on occasion I put a few drops of dish detergent just for the wetting agent, don't use any in my old lexus as it has the windscreen impregnated with something and rain always beads.

The best one is those 32ml Wurth bottles, the orange one.

Good luck finding it though.

Castrol make an additive, similar to the Sonax stuff - I've been using it for several years and have yet to find anything that cleans the screen so well. (In terms of additives that is)

Mercedes-benz make a good product that you can buy from any Benz dealer but its Benz prices. Bars bugs is what I use in my FPV but the stink that makes its way into the cabin is bordering on being fairly offensive.

You need to be careful with most dishwashing detergents as they can contain a fair amount of salt - which can cause rust. I used to have old Mini that was constantly rusting the steel impeller post on the windscreen washer motor. Metho also seems to allow algae to form/build up within the washer bottle.
