Hey guys, i've run into a problem with my LS zetec.
Sometimes i can't turn the car key to the engine starting position and I assume that this is a problem with my immobiliser. It started about a month ago and has been occuring intermittently and only recently has the problem gotten really bad. It took me about 10 minutes to get my car started last night. I lock and unlock the doors and try to start the car and i keep repeating the process until it starts. I really don't have a clue as to what the problem is, but i'm hoping some of you guys can point me in the right direction. Thanks |

Might sound like a stupid question but are you sure the steering lock isn't engaged? That stops you from turning the key.

While this may not be your problem I had starting problems because the key got a very small bur on it and would not turn the barrel of the ignition lock. Local ford dealer gave it a quick rub with very light sandpaper and has been Ok since then.
I have no idea how it gor burred and could not see the bur myself. |

The key old key started working fine again.
I'm soo confused as to why this was happening, but i'm just glad it fixed itself without having to pay any money to get it fixed. |

I brought it in to a shop and they replaced the ignition switch and now it's working again. So the problem wasn't the immobiliser and was a faulty ignition switch.
Cost me $229. $79 for a new ignition switch and $150 for labour. |

If you think that's bad, try the clutch pedal return spring.
Spring - $9 Labour - $210 No joke. I rang up for a quote.

peruatan I would beleive that as I have done the spring myself, there is very little room to move even after taking bottom of dash away.
2 hrs it took me and skin off.
